The Director, Innovation, will drive new product innovation strategy in core and adjacent product categories, partnering with BUs to coordinate and lead innovation projects across brands. This position reports to the VP, Innovation.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop new product innovation strategies for core and adjacent product categories in close collaboration with our Business Unit (BU) leaders
- Identify and scope strategic innovation initiatives in support of BU and NPVI goals
- Drives entry into strategic product category adjacencies by leading opportunity assessment and business case development
- Leads development and execution of our Supplier Innovation program to supplement internal capacity and capability by leveraging suppliers for their innovation capacity
- Lead a team of Category Managers and Interns in driving innovation initiatives
- Lead and oversee cross-functional teams of direct and indirect reports in the front-end of the Stage Gate Process; lead internal and external workshops to generate, screen, and optimize new product ideas; develop and validate consumer-driven new product concepts; lead rapid and iterative build-measure-learn loops on 2D and 3D product concepts; and develop user requirements for new product concepts
- Assemble and analyze complex and diverse data- which is then translated into insights for winning product strategies, innovation product portfolios and strategic product roadmaps
- Determine internal/external resource plan, and secure required resources to deliver project results.
- Manage assigned direct reports and/or contract resources while monitoring team performance; recommend and execute process/structure changes as needed to continuously improve
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Industrial Design, or a related field required; an MBA or advanced degree is preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of product development experience, preferably for consumer products, working directly with Industrial Designers, Engineers, and Market Research.
- Minimum 5 years of product management experience including experience managing teams.
- Demonstrated experience developing new product strategies and strategic product roadmaps
- Strong analytical skills with an emphasis on critical thinking, root cause analysis and problem-solving required.
- Strong communication skills managing up, down and across organizational levels.
- Must possess a drive for action and resolution while operating in an ambiguous and creative environment.
- Ability to bring structure to a highly creative endeavor without losing creativity.

Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is Hiring Pay Range: $140,000 USD - $220,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based sales incentive plan.
