About the Department

High school diploma or GED; five years’ experience in records management to include one year of experience in a lead or supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Working knowledge of the principles and practices of records management; of standard office practices, procedures and equipment. Ability to perform complex, responsible and/or sensitive recordkeeping work; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers; to supervise staff. Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment; excellent problem solving/analytical skills desired. Experience with managing projects associated with recordkeeping systems; electronic record systems; large format scanning and copying equipment; the operation of a customer service counter which handles phone, electronic, and walk-in inquiries associated with a public utility; and three or more years of supervisory experience preferred.  Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.


Position Duties

Staff training, supervision, and evaluation; supervision of the maintenance of Utilities’ project files and records; responsible for records policies, procedures and maintenance; responsible for Utilities Engineering Library; compliance with legal retention schedules and compliance with Library of Virginia published General Retention Schedules; assist with Freedom of Information (FOIA) requests pertaining to the Utilities Department responsible for the review and purging of Utilities’ project records; responsible for the dissemination of data as it relates to customers’ requests for the availability of water and sewer. Performs other work as required.
