SCOPE OF POSITION:
To provide leadership, oversight, and operational support to ambulance crews to ensure the delivery of high-quality emergency medical services. The Ambulance Field Supervisor is responsible for coordinating field operations, managing on-duty personnel, supporting incident response, and maintaining compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
SUPERVISION:
The Ambulance Field Supervisor will work under the direct supervision of the Standing Rock Ambulance Program Director, who will provide guidance, direction and conduct performance evaluations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Operational Oversight
- Monitor EMS activity across assigned regions or shifts.
- Coordinate ambulance deployment and resource allocation.
- Ensure prompt and appropriate response to emergency calls.
- Clearly communicate treatment plans to patients and their families.
2. Personnel Supervision
- Supervise on-duty EMTs and paramedics.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback.
- Assist with scheduling, shift coverage, and conflict resolution.
3. Incident Support
- Respond to high-acuity or complex incidents.
- Serve as Incident Commander or liaison with fire, police, hospital staff, and Medical Director.
- Maintain communication with mobile and fixed emergency units to coordinate response activities.
- Request mutual aid and provide direction at scenes when standard protocols are not feasible.
4. Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure field operations align with protocols, safety standards, and policies.
- Conduct on-scene evaluations; review and verify patient care reports, ambulance checklists and narcotic logs.
- Report and address clinical or operational concerns.
- Ensure thorough cleaning and sanitization of ambulances and base after each use.
5. Training & Development
- Support new staff onboarding through field training and evaluations.
- Facilitate continuing education and skills assessments.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement.
6. Administrative Tasks
- Complete documentation related to incidents, personnel, vehicle checks and EMS equipment.
- Participate in investigations, performance reviews, and disciplinary processes.
- Ensure readiness and daily inventory of equipment, vehicles, tools, supplies and medications.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic certification with 3+ years of supervisory, lead or field training experience in Emergency Medical Services.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and CPR certifications.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel and database reporting tools.
- Proven ability to lead teams during a highly stressful or large scale incident.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated professionalism; maintain tact, courtesy, composure and flexibility under pressure.
PHYSICAL & WORK REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift/move patients and equipment as required in EMS field duties.
- Must be able to work in variable weather conditions, including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Participation in on-call rotation, emergency activations or incident responses as needed.
- Ability to obtain and maintain current Hepatitis B vaccination.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license and meet insurability requirements.
- Must pass a Minimum Background Investigation and suitability requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Deep understanding of EMS protocols, operations, and patient care standards.
- Strictly adhere to physician orders as directed by the Medical Director.
- Ability to obtain (PHTLS) Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support, Auto Extrication, and Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) certification within one (1) year of hire.
- Must maintain both National Registry and state certifications with continuing education and refresher requirements.
- Confidentiality and HIPAA compliance required.
- Proficient in EMS software (e.g., ADP, data reporting).
- Commitment to community health outreach and education.
