Job Description:

We seek a GEAR UP Manager to ensure all students have equitable access to a quality education. The role reports to the GEAR UP Director and is based in Sanger, CA. The GEAR UP Manager will supervise GEAR UP hourly staff members at the respective school sites and be the direct liaison to school site administrators. Duties and responsibilities include the following:

Supervision 65%:

  • Assists the GEAR UP Director in the recruitment, interview, and selection of qualified workforce personnel for the GEAR UP program in accordance with school policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that personnel are trained and knowledgeable of WCPA and GEAR UP partner school site rules and regulations and departmental goals.
  • Provides regular, ongoing feedback regarding work performance of hourly staff. Takes corrective action with employees when directed by the Director, including disciplinary procedures.
  • Ensures hourly staff schedules according to budget and varying workloads, and maintains a smooth flow of operations. This includes scheduling for holidays and vacations.
  • Ensures accurate hourly staff records are maintained, including disciplinary action, vacation and sick accruals, and certification of time reporting in Paycom.
  • Assists in the training of hourly staff for all tasks and duties performed for specific GEAR UP roles within their direct team. Major areas of training include customer service, student interactions, emergency preparedness, data entry, etc.
  • Participates in meetings on or off campus at WCPA and designated school site. Driving a school vehicle for the purposes of transporting equipment and/or materials as needed between school sites as necessary.
  • Continuously monitor and actively support student progress towards high school completion for a 9th to 12th-grade caseload.
  • Collect quarterly academic data and create reports to track student progress towards academic goals; shares strategic plan with Success Coaches and Tutors.
  • Coordinate logistics and execution of college readiness activities such as homework labs, tutoring sessions, test prep courses, financial aid sessions, college application sessions, home visits, parent workshops, and informational meetings.
  • Serve as field trip organizer, point of contact, and chaperone lead on GEAR UP field trips, including special college activities such as overnight college visits and college camps during the summer.
  • Serve as liaison to school site administrators.

Financial Management and Control 25%:

  • Oversees specific GEAR UP school site budget based on school site.
  • Responsible for submitting purchase requisitions and reimbursements for the designated school site in a timely manner.
  • Assists the Director in ensuring that all vendor invoices for their specific GEAR UP school site are processed according to Dept. of Edu and WCPA guidelines and that payment occurs.
  • Ensures that discrepancies are corrected in accordance with proper auditing procedures.

Other Management 10%

  • Assists in maintaining the proper inventory and security of designated GEAR UP Centers, including the checkout process of ID badges, access cards, and school keys.
  • Handle other special assignments as assigned.
  • Oversees the coordination and planning of GEAR UP quarterly family workshops. Promote GEAR UP events by contacting parents via phone calls, text messages, and/or email.
  • Maintain strong and consistent communication with parents throughout the year.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • A minimum of two years of full-time experience working with youth
  • Experience working in low-income, Latino (ideally rural/agricultural) communities
  • California driver's license
  • Fluency in Spanish

Working Conditions:

  • Environment: Office environment; fast-paced work, constant interruptions.
  • Physical requirements: Hearing and speaking to exchange information, make presentations and communicate over the telephone; seeing to read, prepare, and proofread documents and view computer monitors; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment; kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, to retrieve and store files and supplies; lifting light objects; ability to go to sites apart from primary office to conduct business.

Pay: $68,640.00/annually
