Your role:
In your role as Director of Lending Services, you will be responsible for the strategic oversight and operational excellence of the Lending Services division, including Loan Operations, Servicing, Credit Administration, and Underwriting. The Director ensures that lending practices are member-centric, compliant, efficient, and scalable, while fostering a culture of service, accountability, and continuous improvement. In addition to strategic leadership, you will oversee the analysis and underwriting of loan requests, ensuring sound credit decisions and risk mitigation. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining lending policies and procedures that uphold regulatory standards while driving operational efficiency. As the product expert for consumer lending systems and software, the Director of Lending Services leads system optimization and serves as a key resource for Retail Staff, vendor partners, and members' providing training, resolving issues, and offering ongoing education on lending programs and procedures.
This role also includes responsibility for cultivating and sustaining strong relationships with business partners, vendors, and dealers to support lending growth, innovation, and member value.
In this role you will:
- Lead, mentor, and coach a high-performing team across underwriting, loan operations, and servicing. Set clear expectations, conduct regular performance evaluations, and provide ongoing feedback to support professional growth. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement throughout the Lending Services division.
- Oversee daily lending operations, including underwriting and loan servicing, to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with internal policies and external regulations. Manage workload distribution and ensure timely decision-making on loan applications and servicing requests. Drive process improvements to enhance member experience and operational throughput.
- Support the implementation of organizational strategic initiatives related to lending. Collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders to develop and deploy lending projects and service standards. Serve as the product expert for consumer lending systems and software, ensuring optimal system performance and user adoption.
- Underwrite consumer loan applications, both direct and indirect, across the Credit Union. Monitor performance of dealership and vendor partnerships, generating insights and reports to identify growth opportunities and resolve service challenges. Collaborate cross-functionally to streamline approval timelines and elevate partner satisfaction. Monitor risk levels and credit quality of loan portfolios.
- Monitor credit quality and risk levels across loan portfolios. Identify trends and emerging risks and recommend adjustments to underwriting standards or portfolio strategies to maintain sound credit practices.
- Ensure full compliance with lending regulations and internal controls. Develop and revise procedures in response to regulatory changes or new program requirements. Maintain documentation and audit readiness across all lending functions. Update and maintain lending procedures, matrix guidelines and pricing.
- Analyze lending trends and member feedback to recommend enhancements to products, pricing, and operational processes. Support cost-efficiency initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
- Maintain and update lending procedures, pricing matrices, and underwriting guidelines to ensure consistency, clarity, and compliance.
- Communicate new programs and changes to guidelines and procedures to retail services staff and training department.
- Maintain acceptable risk and internal control standards.
- Keep management informed regarding key operational issues affecting the department.
- Develop new and existing business partner and dealer relationships to meet loan production goals.
- Test pricing and new lending products before implementation.
- Deliver service to internal and external members that align with the credit union’s Service Standards and meet all established service goals.
- Comply with the requirements of all credit union policies and procedures including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money laundering regulations as related to the position.
- Comply with all security guidelines related to physical and information security.

Requirements
What we're looking for: You possess a deep understanding of regulations impacting lending programs and are skilled in interpreting them. You also have extensive knowledge of consumer lending practices and procedures. You are a confident, result-driven leader that enjoys developing high-performing teams and can self-direct, manage projects, and meet deliverables. You naturally gain buy-in, build strong relationships, and establish credibility with a wide range of leaders and participants – both internally and with external partners. You are no stranger to a fast-paced environment and tight deadlines, and you are relentless in ensuring that work is completed through effective organization and task management. Written and verbal communication skills are a strength of yours.
You'll need to have:
- High school diploma, GED or higher
- Three or more years of similar or related experience within a financial institution
Even better if you have:
- A bachelor's degree or higher in business, or related field.
