The Role
We are seeking an experienced Construction Controller to oversee the financial management of our construction and development activities. This role will serve as a bridge between the finance and field operations teams, ensuring that project budgets, cost controls, and reporting are accurate, timely, and actionable. The Construction Controller will implement best-in-class systems, manage compliance, and provide leadership in financial planning as Vessel scales its building program nationally.

Who You Are
10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 5 years in construction accounting or real estate development.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, job cost accounting, and WIP reporting.
Hands-on experience with NetSuite (required); exposure to Procore or similar construction project management systems strongly preferred.
Proven ability to partner with operations leaders and project managers.
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
CPA, CMA, or CCIFP designation preferred, but not required.
Based in New York City; this is primarily an in-person role at our NYC office.
What You’ll Do
Own all construction accounting and reporting, including job cost tracking, WIP (work-in-progress) reporting, and project cash flow forecasting.
Partner with project managers, VPs of Field Operations, and factory leadership to ensure alignment of budgets, schedules, and actuals.
Implement and manage job cost accounting systems (NetSuite + construction modules / Procore / similar).
Oversee contract review, lien waivers, and subcontractor/vendor payment compliance.
Ensure accurate and timely monthly close for construction projects, including accruals, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
Lead reporting for lenders, investors, and joint venture partners as required.
Develop and maintain standardized cost reporting across projects and regions.
Work closely with the VP of Accounting and CFO on consolidation of construction results into corporate financials.
Build, mentor, and manage a small team of construction accountants as the business scales.
