Reports To: Executive Director Human Resources
PURPOSE:
Under general supervision, the Human Resources Specialist is responsible for facilitating the hiring and onboarding processes, tracking the status of employee licensure, and maintaining personnel files regarding compliance with federal, state and local regulations and established Board policies.
EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Associates degree preferred.
Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for education.
Experience:
Three years’ relevant work history strongly preferred.
Experience with a variety of databases and computer software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, KSDE, Frontline, Alio, and Filemaker.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Ability to produce reports applicable to the position and to operate without close supervision.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and display professional demeanor at all times.
Ability to draft professional communication to stakeholders. Bilingual abilities are a plus.
Knowledge of applicable laws, policies and procedures.
Ability to problem solve and effectively communicate solutions.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Apply composition and proofreading skills in producing clear, accurate, and fact-based memos, letters, reports, and other documents for appropriate stakeholders.
Use effective written and oral communication skills to convey essential information to staff, administrators, and a variety of community patrons.
Establish and maintain all district personnel files.
Maintain appropriate electronic storage and retrieval of permanent employee records.
Monitor licensure status for certified and substitute teachers through KSDE.
Assist in preparing teaching contracts/letters of intent.
Complete license renewal applications—KSDE website.
Send reminders to certified staff regarding licensure expiration dates.
Collect and process new hire paperwork; perform background checks, social security matches, and I-9 audits.
Collect information and maintain files for student teachers and all staff.
Process transfers and separations for all employees.
Monitor payments of student teacher stipends and sign-on bonuses (AR4/AR5).
Assist in reviewing and revising various handbooks and employment forms.
Convey essential information to staff, administrators, and a variety of community patrons.
Facilitate queries and data pulls when requested for administrators and the Board of Education.
Facilitates position closures in Frontline and initiates onboarding process for Certified Staff.
Answer questions regarding district policies, state regulations, negotiated agreements, and general staff inquiries.
Complete verification of experience (certified and classified).
Complete loan forgiveness applications.
Send out non-Highly Qualified letters per federal guidelines.
Translate for patrons.
Monitor status of nonresident work permits.
Complete tuition reimbursement applications.
Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the HR Director or other appropriate administrator.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk and hear.
The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms.
The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
The work environment is in an office setting.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
