Position Title: Communications and Public Relations Specialist

What You'll Be Doing:
Economic Mobility Pathways (EMPath) is searching for an experienced communications and public relations professional whose primary focus will be developing and executing strategic communication plans to increase awareness, promote engagement, and build the reputation of the organization. This role includes content creation, media relations coordination, strategy development, internal and external messaging, and concept and idea generation.
Key Responsibilities:
Communications
- Collaborate with program leads/teams to develop and execute strategy to promote EMPath programs, services and events.
- Write, edit, and manage content for the website, newsletters, brochures, and other collateral.
- Assist Sr. Director of Communications with developing and maintaining organization-wide communications calendar.
- Collaborate with program teams to gather stories, testimonials, and impact data.
- Update and maintain EMPath brand guidelines.
- Ensure consistent messaging across all platforms and communications and, alignment with brand identity and voice.
- Support communication needs for internal audiences, including staff updates, HR communications and board materials, as needed.
- Assist with event promotion and communications related to fundraising and community events.
Public Relations & Media Outreach
- Update and maintain EMPath database of local and national media contacts.
- Monitor media coverage and prepare clip reports.
- Draft press releases, media advisories, and talking points.
- Coordinate media interviews.
- Stay abreast of local/national media and contribute ideas for media coverage.
Administrative
- Orchestrate the production and mailing of donor letters for Institutional Advancement team.
- Act as back-up to Social Media/Digital Coordinator in managing EMPath’s social media properties (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, BlueSky), and with occasional website edits.
- Collaborate with designers, photographers, and videographers when needed.
- Perform other duties to support the Institutional Advancement team as directed by the Sr. Director of Communications, as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
- 3–4 years of relevant experience in nonprofit, agency, or mission-driven settings preferred.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with media outreach and relationship-building.
- Proficiency in digital tools such as email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp), CMS (e.g., WordPress), and social media management tools.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Creative thinker with a passion for storytelling and social impact.

WORKING HOURS:
Four-day workweek. Hybrid office environment: 2 days in-office in our Boston Seaport office, 2 days remote.
PAY TRANSPERENCY:
This role is budgeted up to $60,000 annually.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK CONDITIONS:
Position requires walking, sitting, bending, and light lifting (up to 25 lbs). Must be able to operate standard office equipment and work in a residential shelter environment. Periodic stress and the ability to follow detailed verbal/written instructions are expected.
