Description

This position provides senior-level technical writing and publication support to a U.S. defense mission area.  You will be responsible for developing, reviewing, and editing both classified and unclassified technical publications, tactical documents, and supporting graphics to ensure accuracy, clarity, and compliance with established standards. The role requires a current security clearance and demonstrated expertise in Adobe Creative Suite tools, advanced technical publication development, and the end-to-end document lifecycle. Successful candidates will bring extensive experience in editing complex technical content, coordinating with subject matter experts, and producing high-quality deliverables for operational and strategic use across U.S. Navy and Joint communities.


Your duties will consist, but are not limited to:

  • Develop, review, and update Tactical Memoranda (TACMEMO), Tactical Bulletins (TACBUL), Tactical Notes (TACNOTE), Tactical Advisory Messages (TAMs), and Fleet Advisory Messages (FAMs).
  • Review, update, and provide input on Joint Publications (JPs), Navy Warfare Publications (NWPs), Navy Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (NTTPs), Concepts of Operations (CONOPS), Concepts of Employment (CONEMP), and Navy Tactical Reference Publications (NTRPs).
  • Manage publication projects through all phases, including Front-End Analysis (FEA), content creation, editing, approval, and distribution.
  • Research tactical and technical information from ships’ battle bills, naval messages, equipment configuration manuals, validated fleet review comments, and SME inputs.
  • Write and edit publications to ensure accuracy, clarity, and compliance with classification guidelines.
  • Recommend effective methods of presentation, such as tables, figures, and listings.
  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), including Warfare Tactics Instructors (WTIs), to clarify and validate content.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment:

  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Must possess and maintain a current SECRET clearance and be eligible for TS/SCI
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications:
Applicants must demonstrate the following qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of recent experience developing high-quality graphics for defense-related presentations.
  • At least 5 years of proficiency using Adobe software (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat, Premiere, or equivalent).
  • At least 5 years of experience teaching or developing Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) or Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) doctrine, tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs).
  • Demonstrated ability to research, write, and edit tactical/technical publications for defense or military use.
  • Ability to ensure accuracy of classification markings, preserve author intent, and align with Navy writing standards (N5 Directorate, NRTP 1-01).

How You Will Be Evaluated

You will be evaluated based on your level of knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience in the following areas:

  • Technical writing and editing for defense-related publications.
  • Knowledge of Navy and Joint doctrine, TTPs, and publication processes.
  • Proficiency in Adobe design and editing tools.
  • Ability to synthesize complex tactical/technical information into clear, concise publications.
  • Experience coordinating with SMEs and Warfare Tactics Instructors.

Salary Requirements are contingent:

110-130K
