As a member of the IT Team, the Business Systems Analyst is responsible for facilitation in the areas of project organization and execution, and facilitates the design, vendor evaluation, development, implementation, and management of multiple projects. This position has responsibilities in 5 key areas, including: Business Knowledge, Scope Definition, Systems Requirements Definition, Development, User Administration and Support, Quality Assurance, and Project Leadership. While this is a hybrid position, it must be based in Portland, Oregon.
Position responsibilities:
- Leads small to medium projects (or assists on larger projects) to ensure applications meet user requirements by gathering information from users; developing technical requirements, architecture, and design deliverables; and continuously working with users to negotiate technical solutions against business requirements. Effectively communicate and define technology considerations within the context of business requirements to a business audience.
- Provides ongoing client support for technical system questions and problems; serves as subject matter expert for designated systems; analyzes and researches more complex system problems, coordinating with vendors and other parties as necessary, and tracks them to resolution; develops, documents, and communicates alternative workarounds for system defects until system solutions can be implemented.
- Conducts interviews and facilitate requirements gathering, process analysis and application design sessions with project stakeholders including internal IT partners and business partners.
- Performs and documents analysis of existing business rules, processes, and systems to recommend process and system enhancements to improve business performance and maximize the effectiveness of available technology.
- Manages understanding of Johnstone’s business models, data relationships, and systems interfaces to determine requirements and formulate strategies for new and enhanced functionality.
- Maintains the product or application backlog according to department standards.
- Provides solutions spanning multiple technology areas, including network, application, database, middleware, and security.
- Partners with business and IT teams to determine estimates on resources and timing to meet business needs and communicates to appropriate stakeholders.
- Develops sizing estimates for project requests and determines feasibility of implementing new systems or modifying existing systems including communication plans and training plans.
Position requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university; at least 5 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of SQL, Visual Basic, MS SharePoint and data standards & normalization best practice techniques and tools.
- Ability to use software tools for data profiling, data cleansing, data analysis, and data modeling.
- Ability to use the Internet, e-mail, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.
- Skill in facilitating and leading meetings. Ability to present information in both one-on-one and group situations.
- Ability to be self-motivated and self-directed with all job responsibilities.
- Ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical users.
- Ability to diagnose and solve problems. Uses logic to solve difficult problems with effective solutions; probes all different sources for answers; can see hidden problems; is excellent at analysis; looks beyond the obvious and doesn't stop at the face value answers.
- Ability to initiate, challenge, and recommend for an ideal or position; pursues everything with initiative, energy, drive, and a need to bring efforts to closure.
- Ability to learn quickly when encountering new problems; a relentless and versatile learner; open to change; analyzes both successes and failures for improvements; experiments and will try anything to find solutions; enjoys the challenge of unfamiliar tasks; quickly grasps the essence and the underlying structure of anything.
- Skill and/or experience building or supporting workflows for business processes within application platform (e.g. Monday.com, Service Now, Power Automate).
