The Director of Information Technology and Telecommunications provides leadership in planning, organizing, and directing all activities of the Information Technology (IT) department, which offers comprehensive airport-wide IT and voice/data communications and systems. This includes executing a long-term IT strategy to meet the airport's current and future needs, as well as the support and maintenance of existing infrastructure and applications. The Director of IT will bring a foundation in technical knowledge and develop a positive work environment and a culture that enables innovation.
The position leads a staff of professionals who are responsible for IT service delivery and cybersecurity, and oversees consultants supporting technology delivery.
Responsibilities:ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees the development, creation, and execution of the airport-wide technology strategy and operational plans supporting the overall operations-focused mission and business strategy.
- Directs and oversees the information technology system development, network administration, cybersecurity, and telecommunications of the airport/airport system.
- Collaborates with internal customers and stakeholders to understand their technology needs and provide technology-based solutions.
- Ensures information technology alignment and integration with the airport/airport systems business strategy.
- Keep abreast of emerging technologies. Researches, identifies, and evaluates IT trends and practices that are of relevance to the airport environment. Analyzes and communicates how technology alternatives can be leveraged to improve business and operational efficiency, reduce costs, etc.
- Provides airport leadership with information and recommendations about the organization’s technological ecosystem and trends to enhance executive-level decision-making.
- Oversees the design, implementation, maintenance, administration and operation of IT infrastructure, which includes but is not limited to Local Area Network (LAN) hardware, access security systems, CCTV system, VoIP communications, wireless, web/internet, revenue control systems, video information display systems, fire alarm systems, paging and application software.
- Provides, or assists with providing, project management and prioritization for capital projects and initiatives that affect IT infrastructure. Ensures the development of comprehensive written project management plans that identify and mitigate IT risks, incorporate internal/external resource requirements, establish schedules and timelines, maintain budgets and actual cost details, and track progress and outcomes.
- Oversees the department budget and contracts and provides support and guidance for airport expenditures and budgets.
- Holds the department accountable for accomplishing goals, coaches, and provides leadership and development opportunities to employees.
- Oversees the work of IT personnel, following appropriate policies, practices, and procedures; ensures that proper protocols are utilized to complete all tasks and responsibilities safely; enforces personnel rules and regulations and work behavior standards according to company values.
- Responsible for IT business continuity and disaster plans, ensuring the ability to recover essential IT systems/information in the event of a disaster or incident affecting airport infrastructure.
- Manage the airport’s mobile device management environment.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned or required.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, or other relevant field combined with ten (10) years of experience managing an IT department, including five (5) years of management experience including budget and fiscal oversight, evaluation of business processes, policy and decision making, and planning and organizing multiple programs, projects, operations or functions, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Master's Degree or MBA preferred
- Extensive knowledge of the full range of business functions and systems, including strategic development, planning, budgeting, business analysis, FAA regulations, and general aviation operations (if new to the aviation industry, this position requires correctly identifying areas that require consultation with general counsel or more experienced colleagues).
- Employees are required to be available and on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to respond to irregular operations, airport emergencies, and seasonal weather conditions.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan motor vehicle operator’s permit.
- Successfully complete the National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200 course requirements and certification within the first year of assuming the position.
