About Us:
The Glendale City Court is the Judicial Branch of the Glendale city government and is also part of the Arizona Judicial System. The Glendale City Court adjudicates criminal  misdemeanors, civil traffic violations, city code violations, and certain juvenile offenses committed in the City of Glendale. In cases of domestic violence and harassment, the Court issues protective orders. The Court has the authority to issue search warrants for misdemeanors and felonies. The Glendale City Court's mission is to provide an independent and accessible City Court, that maintains a high degree of public trust and public confidence, by addressing cases and providing prompt, fair, and just resolution in a professional, efficient, and courteous manner.  
The Role:
Conducts formal court hearings on misdemeanor, traffic, city code offenses and protective orders.

Position Overview:
  • Hours: Scheduled as needed, including weekends and holidays.
  • Hourly rate: $70.00
  • FLSA status: Non-exempt (eligible for overtime pay for hours worked over 40 per week)
  • Work locations: Glendale City Court, 5711 W Glendale Ave, Glendale, AZ 85301
  • Sick Time: Accrues at .034 hours per-hour-paid

Position Duties

  1. Presides over in-person and virtual proceedings on an as-needed/on-call basis.
  2. Adjudicates misdemeanor, criminal traffic, civil traffic and city code violations.
  3. Reviews and determines bond eligibility for defendants.
  4. Presides over initial appearances, arraignments, pre-trial conferences, civil traffic hearings, probation violation hearings, restitution hearings, jury and non-jury trials, sentencings and sentence review hearings.
  5. Reviews and grants search warrants.  
  6. Conducts hearings on petitions for orders of protection, injunctions prohibiting harassment, and issues court orders.
  7. Reviews and signs criminal complaints.
  8. Researches, explains and applies laws, rules and regulations.
  9. Assists the Presiding City Judge in administering court policies, procedures, and practices.
  10. Participates in judicial education as required.  
  11. Performs other related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited Law School and membership in the State Bar of Arizona in good standing for a minimum of five (5) years. 
 
 The top candidates will be invited to participate in a comprehensive interview, assessment and selection process that includes a panel review by a Special Judicial Officer Selection Committee.   
 
All candidates are subject to an extensive background check, including but not limited to, Department of Public Safety and FBI background investigations, status checks with the Arizona Commission on Judicial Conduct and the Arizona State Bar.  Applicants must be truthful and accurate and avoid providing inconsistent information, incorrect dates, partial or incomplete information when completing the application and any supplemental forms.  Falsifying or omitting information during any stage of the selection process, may make you ineligible for consideration or continued City employment.
