The Assistant Estimator is responsible for assisting the Estimator and Chief Estimator with preparing detailed estimates for retail, commercial, restaurant and special construction projects.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Update and maintain company's internal subcontractor database to include contact information, bid history, cost tracking, and bid profile.
- Understand, update and maintain company bidding platform and 3rd party resources.
- Making high volume phone calls to subcontractors and vendors, and tracking responses.
- Download and review drawings and specifications from clients and issue invitation to bid (ITB) to relevant subcontractors and vendors based on the scope of work using company bidding platform and 3rd party resources.
- Request and review rules and regulations issued by landlords to understand cost impact.
- Extensive communication with subcontractors and vendors during the bid process to ensure total bid coverage.
- Issue Addenda from clients to subcontractors and vendors during the bid process.
- Visit construction sites and attend pre-bid meetings as necessary.
- Analyze bids from subcontractors and vendors to ensure accuracy versus scope of work.
- Collaborate with Chief Estimator and Estimator to review General Condition costs and means and methods of construction for specific projects.
- Complete bid template review with Chief Estimator and Estimator prior to bid submission time.
- Update and maintain database of cost by client, region, labor type and CSI Master Format Division list.
- Update and maintain database of General Condition cost by region.
- Maintain and update Standard Bid Clarifications and Exclusions list.
- Perform Quantity Take Offs for subcontractors and suppliers as required.
- Provide administrative support as needed.
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of construction industry standards and practices
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Exceptional attention to detail with follow-up skills and commitment to deadlines
- Capable of working in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
- Manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities
- Ability to read and understand construction documents, specifically, drawings and specifications
- Ability to operate basic office equipment, including computer, phones, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Results oriented
- Familiarity with Pantera Estimating Software and Procore Project Management Software is a plus
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Associates degree (or active studies) in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or other related field from an accredited program
- Related estimating experience is a plus
