About the Department
Incumbents in this position are responsible for preventative maintenance and repair of fire hydrants. This position is assigned to pay grade G12.
Position Duties
- Perform hydrant inspections and testing.
- Perform preventative maintenance as needed.
- Performs outlet cap lubrication.
- Performs valve stem lubrication as needed.
- Performs corrective maintenance.
- Repair weep hole functionality.
- Replace outlet caps and outlet caps gaskets.
- Perform emergency repairs as needed.
- Prep and painting of fire hydrants.
- Assists in solving customer complaints and problems as well as those reported by local fire departments.
- Assists with construction, repair, maintenance, and operations of water and wastewater lines and mains.
- Work order management.
- Inventory management.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Six (6) months of general work experience or any related work field.
- Possession of NC Distribution System Operator license is preferred.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid State of North Carolina Class "B" CDL license. NC Class "B" CDL is required within one (1) year of hire.
- This position will be placed on an On-Call rotation that requires a response within 30 minutes of notification.
