Under the direction of the CARA Chairman, the Rater is responsible for rating film content and "pieces" of previously-viewed movies according to given guidelines, as well as, work with fellow raters and explain each rating given through a written ballot. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Screen films, rating each one according to the guidelines set forth in the "Classification and Rating Rules" and other rules or guidelines provided by the CARA Chairman. 
  • Discuss with fellow raters to formulate the film's tentative rating and descriptor until it is accepted officially by the film company that submitted it.
  • Prepare a written ballot for each film outlining the Rater’s reasons for the rating decision.

Education and Experience Requirements 

The following are the minimum qualifications which an individual needs in order to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.   Please note that the minimum qualifications may vary based on the department size and/or geographic location. 

  • Ability to solve practical problems and carry out responsibilities under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to organize workload for effective implementation.
  • Ability to write sample correspondence and present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to function as an effective team member.
  • Ability to adapt as the external environment and organization evolves.
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, facilitative and consulting skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information. 

Other Requirements 

  • Must be a parent of a child between the ages of 5 and 15 years old.
  • Must not have current affiliation with the motion picture industry.
