What You Will Do
The FSQA Compliance Specialist will drive food safety culture across every aspect of the operation by building collaborative relationships, driving a risk-based problem-solving mindset, and challenging our cross functional team to “walk the talk.” Day to day, you will manage the audit programs at the Ennis site, from SQF to export audits and ensure we are striving to continuously improve the foods safety programs.
How You Will Make an Impact
- Ensuring proper procedures are in place and being followed for employee safety, food safety, and product quality
- Support the development, implementation, review and maintenance of the Freshpet SQF Food Safety and Quality System, including prerequisite programs and policies and procedures found in the Quality Manual. Report out monthly on system status to cross functional leadership team
- Serve as the audit lead, with support from appropriate team members in Regulatory, Supplier Quality, and other groups for Non-GMO, Organic, APHIS inspections, etc.
- Perform annual validations and participate in any changes to Food Safety fundamentals and Food Safety plans that have an impact on Freshpet’s ability to deliver safe food for pets
- Support the development and maintenance of the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and Preventive Controls (PC) plans for all products manufactured at Freshpet plants
- Support a cross-functional Food Safety team, identifying and driving continuous improvement projects with the team to improve food safety
- Lead internal audit activity, including training and calibrating internal auditors and following up on audit findings. Communicate findings and drive the follow up for corrective action of non-conformances as needed.
- Developing and delivering SQF, HACCP, Quality System and Food Safety training to QA team. Deliver training to other groups and support development of content with Training Department as needed
- Assisting in analyzing and resolving quality and food safety problems in manufacturing
- Active participation in Freshpet Performance for Excellence and Focused Improvement pillar activities as appropriate, driving core value of safety (people and food) in everything we do operationally
- Any miscellaneous tasks as needed to help support the business.
- FSQA Compliance Manager will serve as backup to this position.
What You Will Bring
- Sound knowledge of food safety and quality system requirements for the food industry
- Experience identifying food safety risks and conducting risk analysis
- Project Management skills (must be capable of handling multiple projects)
- Basic knowledge of food analytical and microbiology testing
- Basic knowledge of food processing including thermal processing
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of Statistics to perform routine test data and process control analysis
- Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs and ability to lead others through change
- Able to work varied days/shifts to support business needs
- Occasional Travel
Education/Skills
- Minimum (5) years working in Food Safety/Quality Systems, preferably in food or pet food
- SQF Practitioner or obtain certification within 3 months of hire
- HACCP/PCQI certified or obtained certification within 3 months of hire
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and computer-based applications
- Bachelor’s degree in food science or related field (Chemistry, Microbiology, Engineering, etc.) preferred
What We Offer
The range for this position is: $85,000 to $100,000
