Position Summary

The Staff Accountant is responsible for processing accounts payable transactions, performing general ledger accounting tasks, and supporting various future accounting and finance projects. This role will handle routine transactional duties, assist with month-end and year-end closings, and contribute to process improvement initiatives. The position offers growth opportunities into broader accounting responsibilities as new projects arise.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Accounts Payable
    • Review, verify, and process vendor invoices and expense reports.
    • Maintain vendor files, ensure timely payments, and resolve discrepancies.
    • Prepare and process weekly payment runs.
    • Assist with 1099 reporting and vendor compliance (e.g., W-9s).
  2. General Ledger
    • Post recurring journal entries such as payroll, benefits, and intercompany allocations.
    • Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts and investigate variances.
    • Assist with preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
    • Record daily cash receipts, disbursements, and prepare bank deposits.
  3. Future Accounting Projects
    • Participate in system upgrades, automation initiatives, and process improvement efforts.
    • Support integration of newly acquired entities or business units into accounting processes.
    • Assist with policy updates and implementation of new accounting procedures.
    • Contribute to special financial analysis and reporting projects as assigned.
  4. Team Collaboration
    • Work closely with the Controller and other team members to ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial information.
    • Serve as back-up for other accounting functions as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of accounting experience with exposure to accounts payable and general ledger work.
  • Accounting Degree.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SX Enterprise or equivalent).
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an indoor office environment with low to moderate noise levels. Occasionally may be required to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
