PURPOSE STATEMENT
Pharmacy Technician assist pharmacists in preparing, distributing and dispensing medications, maintaining the medication inventory, and maintaining patient records. Pharmacy Technicians work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Procure and distribute medications per order, pharmacist request or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures and protocols.
- Maintain adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and procedures.
- Maintain adequate documentation as required by law and regulation.
- Contribute to the effective operation of the department.
- Participate in the quality improvement activities of the department.
- Maintain competence required for current job title/position.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the director.
Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Registration with Missouri Board of Pharmacy or eligible to become registered with the Missouri Board of Pharmacy.
- Previous pharmacy tech experience is required.
- Must have attention to detail, excellent customer service skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team, ability to prioritize and problem solve, ability to mathematically compute and convert drug concentrations and doses.
- Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program preferred.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 8 to 10 hours a day.
- Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
- Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
- Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
- Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
- Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to life and/or carry up to 40 lbs.
- Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
