About the Department

Village of Hanover Park, Illinois (pop. 37,470) is seeking an experienced professional Village Manager to lead our vibrant and thriving community. Hanover Park is a great place to live, visit, work, and do business. It is rich in culture and has a reputation as a friendly, quiet village with effective and engaged government, affordable housing, and excellent schools. Proudly representing 80 different nationalities and 30 languages spoken, Hanover Park is, as our tagline says, “America’s Global Village.”

Located just 30 miles northwest of Chicago and spanning both Cook and DuPage Counties, Hanover Park is a Home Rule municipality with an impressive AA Bond rating. It is home to over 600 businesses, from small family-owned shops to large Fortune 500 companies.

The Village is governed by a seven-member legislative body comprised of the Village President and six Trustees, each elected to staggered four-year terms. The Mayor appoints the Village Manager with consent of the Trustees. The Manager serves as the Chief Administrative Officer and oversees day-to-day Village operations, appoints Department Heads and the Deputy Village Manager. The Village has an annual operating budget of $90.7 million and approximately 220 full-time equivalent employees across seven departments: Community and Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Police, and Public Works. The current Village Manager is retiring after 36 years of municipal experience, including 13 years with the Village.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in public administration, business administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of six to ten years of local government leadership experience, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Commitment to customer service, fiscal discipline, integrity, and transparency in government.
  • Strong partnership skills with elected officials, staff, agencies, and the community.
  • Leadership style marked by conviction, collaboration, teambuilding, and approachability.
  • Superior public speaking and community engagement skills.
  • Proven fiscal management, capital improvement planning, and financial execution.
  • Knowledge in business attraction/retention and economic development.
  • Attention to community revitalization, appearance, and transit-oriented development.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong strategic planning abilities to guide future growth and development.

Compensation and Benefits:

Residency is not required. Anticipated starting salary: $230,000–$265,000 +/- DOQ with eligibility for an annual performance increase. Includes a competitive benefits package: health, dental, vision, life insurance, pension, and deferred compensation.
