Summary This position will be responsible for all areas of product development and engineering for all Marine Components products and processes. This role will lead multiple unique teams, focused on unique products, in multiple locations. The director of engineering will need to be a highly effective leader who is able to drive a culture of innovation and excellence within their teams. This role will participate in strategic planning for the business unit and requires an ability to translate strategic goals into executable tactical plans carried out by their teams to drive the business forward.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- General Duties
- Drive a culture of innovation within all engineering teams, originating and executing new ideas for customers in alignment with the strategic vision of the business unit.
- Align the engineering department’s structure to meet the strategic vision of the business unit.
- Implement processes for monitoring staff activities, expenditures vs budget, research findings, product testing, progress reports, supplier communication, management communication and project status.
- Develop new leaders within the department to enable sustainable, rapid growth within the teams.
- Product Development
- Provide governance over product development processes to support and execute all phases of new product projects and initiatives.
- Partner with adjacent departments to ensure the correct product is being delivered on time, on budget and to expectations.
- Interface with procurement for sourcing new parts and materials required for new products.
- Negotiate consulting contracts and expectations to perform research and design needs.
- Manage tooling quotes needed to bid new tooling and fixtures as well as oversee the tooling supplier communication and approval of new tooling.
- Ensure engineering teams provide production teams with detailed information needed to successfully build all new product.
- Manage product engineering teams
- Lead the team to support and coordinate engine improvement projects and resources in all areas of engine development, validation, and manufacturing.
- Lead and grow the engineering team and coordinate resources necessary to be successful.
- Develop and implement methods and procedures for monitoring projects, budgets, staff activities, expenditures, research findings, product testing, progress reports, supplier communication, management communication and project status.
- Negotiate consulting contracts and expectations to perform research and design needs.
- Oversee project timelines and weekly communication to the management team.
- Hold project owners accountable for deadlines and new product delivery dates.
- Manage process engineering teams
- Oversee all activities of process engineering that include manufacturing capability development, capacity increases, new product integration, continuous improvement, training supplements, line balancing, partnering with production for corrective actions, scheduling support, new equipment projects, and others.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
Engineering bachelors degree, or related degree from ABET accredited University required
Minimum 7 yrs experience in mechanical design and product development
Minimum 5 yrs product development experience
Minimum 5 yrs experience in 3D solid modeling, SolidWorks preferred
Language Skills
English required. Effective communication skills will be necessary to perform tasks.
Mathematical Skills
Will use mathematics to solve problems, up to the algebraic level.
Reasoning Ability
Must maintain a strong understanding of general problem solving, logical reasoning, and root cause analysis.
Other Qualifications
CPM, PE, or other professional certifications a plus
