Overview
Genesee Lake School is currently seeking an Art Teacher to join their team in Oconomowoc!
The art teacher provides art education and coordination for art events. They will Plan, develop, and implement art educational programs and activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social skill development for the students at GLS.
GLS is both a therapeutic day school & residential treatment center for children and young adults with Autism and neurological, emotional and/or developmental disabilities. We have received the National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET) award for three consecutive years. Our 160-acre campus in the countryside near Oconomowoc provides an ideal setting for our students to learn, develop and achieve their potential. The school calendar follows the typical 180 educational days with the opportunity to attend Extended School Year for students in need of this programming.

JOB DESCRIPTION
- Provides individualized art instruction for classes of 7-10 students
- Selects projects and activities that foster an inclusive learning environment that is tailored to each student's individual needs
- Displays student's projects within the school and community as applicable.
- Documents student progress within progress reports, IEP's, and any other applicable documentation. Completes necessary data collection per each students plan.
- Collaborates with various departments and programs to discuss implementing BIP's or FBA's within the academic setting.
- Assigns and supervises specific teaching and classroom tasks to Instructional Aide and support staff- ESPs/DSPs.
- Demonstrates familiarity with total curriculum by using resources to plan lessons.
- Uses Agency-approved treatment techniques in supervising and educating students
- Models and promotes the use of assistive technology devices for students that utilize them
- In collaboration with an Occupational Therapist, uses art activities to assist in regulating students’ sensory systems
- Demonstrates continued effort to improve teaching competencies per changing student needs
- Completes annual inventory of classroom supplies
- Follows Education Department purchasing procedures, in submitting purchase orders as needed for art supplies for the classroom
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university required.
- Certified by the State of Wisconsin Department of Education in Art and/or Adaptive Education. Must be certified for the age level of classes taught.
- Experience in working with students with autism, emotional disabilities, or cognitive disabilities is preferred
- Experience designing and facilitating adaptive art education and projects preferred.
- Demonstrates an ability to exercise good judgment and effectively solve problems
- Remains calm under pressure and maintains self-composure/self-control
- Effective working alone and as a member of a team
WAGES & BENEFITS:
- Hours: 8-4pm or 7:30-3:30pm during the regular school year + availability to work ESY
- Schedule: Monday- Friday, following a traditional school calendar
- Salary Range: $52k- $60k; Final salary based on level of education + years of experience. Our teachers are paid year round/non-contract!
