Description
The Quality Engineer will be based at our Mentor Headquarters and support operations at our Mentor, Cleveland, Clyde, Green, and Virginia Beach facilities. The position reports to the Director of Quality.
The Quality Engineer will support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Greenbridge's quality management systems and processes, ensuring that all products meet or exceed customer and industry standards of quality, consistency, and functionality. This role will collaborate with cross-functional teams, drive quality initiatives, conduct production evaluations, lead corrective and preventive action development, support product development, and lead internal audit activities. The Quality Engineer will ensure alignment with industry standards and customer expectations, fostering a culture of excellence and operational efficiency across all manufacturing sites.
Requirements
Quality Systems & Document Control
- Develops, maintains, and integrates the quality management system.
- Reviews quality control documentation such as checklists, logs, and reports for effectiveness, accuracy, and relevance.
- Facilitates the development and use of product and process FMEAs. Creates and maintains quality documents such as control plans and inspection documents.
Product Inspection & Testing
- Develops and implements standard product testing and evaluation processes.
- Devises sampling procedures and designs and develops forms and instructions for recording, evaluating and reporting product and process quality data.
- Creates and maintains necessary quality gauging for the production units.
- Creates and implements ‘fit for use’ tests, as needed, for existing and new product lines.
- Supports the Layered Audit Process by monitoring and reporting on audit quality and results. Conducts random inspections and quality control checks to support the Layered Audit Process
Auditing
- Assists with development and implementation of quality audits.
- Conducts internal audits, supports external audits by regulatory bodies and customers, including closing out audit findings, creating audit finding reports and determining proper corrective and preventative actions.
Training
- Compiles and writes training material and conducts training sessions on quality control activities.
- Providing training and support to staff on quality-related matters.
Corrective and Preventive Action
- Initiates corrective action requests as needed and tracks to satisfactory completion. Acts as the quality interface for production teams in responding to customer complaints using failure analysis, development of corrective and preventative actions and trend analysis.
- Oversee programs to evaluate the precision and accuracy of production and laboratory testing equipment and measurement devices.
Analysis and SPC
- Analytically evaluates machine processes to provide information and direction for quality improvements. These evaluations include designed experiments and process capabilities studies.
- Analyzes quality data and generates reports for management review.
General
- Facilitates communication among production divisions and management.
- Prevents escalation of quality challenges.
- Evaluates production operations to ensure that products meet quality, integrity, functionality, and other specifications and requirements.
- Stays updated with industry trends and best practices in quality management.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Able to travel 10-20%, primarily day trips with occasional overnight travel needed.
Qualifications and Experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to train staff.
- Thorough understanding of quality control standards and methodologies.
- Excellent organizational skills, high attention to detail and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Able to function safely in a high-volume manufacturing facility.
- Able to conduct visual inspection of products for superficial surface defects.
- Must have a systematic and methodical approach to tasks and understand problem solving techniques.
Education and Experience:
- An associate or bachelor’s degree in a science or technical field or ASQ certification combined with an additional 3 years of work experience.
- Experience managing quality systems and auditing procedures and processes.
- 2–5 years of experience in quality engineering or quality assurance.
- Strong knowledge of quality standards (e.g. ISO 9001), methods, and tools.
- Training or proficiency in the use of quality inspection tools, statistical analysis, and root cause methodologies.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Has experience in plastics extrusion, materials processing, or the packaging supply industry.
- Has a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related field.
- Possess certifications such as ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, and ISO 9001 Lead Auditor.
- Has expertise with quality tools including Minitab or other SPC software.
- Is fluent in both Spanish and English
- Is self-motivated and able to work independently.
