We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Insurance Business Analyst with strong expertise in Commercial Underwriting. The ideal professional will bring deep domain knowledge across multiple commercial lines, including General Liability, Commercial Auto, Property, Workers’ Compensation, and Excess/Umbrella, and will act as a key bridge between underwriting, product management, and technology teams.
In this role, you will drive improvements in underwriting processes, gather and translate business requirements, support system enhancements, and ensure seamless delivery of underwriting solutions.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with underwriters, product managers, and operations to identify, gather, and analyze underwriting requirements and challenges.
- Convert business needs into clear functional requirements, process flows, user stories, and use cases.
- Collaborate with technology teams to design, implement, and enhance underwriting systems, tools, and automation workflows.
- Lead initiatives aimed at improving underwriting accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with established guidelines.
- Support solution validation through UAT planning, test case creation, and issue/defect resolution.
- Assist in change management, training, and adoption activities for new systems or process enhancements.
- Track industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure underwriting practices remain compliant and market-competitive.
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience as a Business Analyst within the commercial insurance industry.
- Minimum 3 years of direct experience in or supporting commercial underwriting teams.
- Strong knowledge of commercial insurance products and workflows, including GL, Auto, Property, Workers’ Comp, and Excess/Umbrella.
- Hands-on experience with policy administration systems (Guidewire PolicyCenter, Duck Creek, or similar platforms).
- Proficiency in documenting requirements in Agile/Scrum environments.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Exposure to submission intake, appetite/eligibility checks, risk assessment, and referral workflows.
- Familiarity with underwriting workbench solutions, rating methodologies, and third-party data integrations.
- Experience supporting digital transformation or legacy system modernization projects.
- Understanding of ISO/NCCI rules and commercial lines regulatory compliance.
