In this role, you'll:
Be responsible for providing specialist Fleet Engineering services, leadership and direction for all Fleet Programs, ensuring the innovative and safe design of solutions for the successful delivery of these projects.
The NSW Government is delivering major rollingstock projects as part of the Mariyung and Regional Rail fleet Programs with dedicated project teams working closely with our suppliers and operators, Sydney Trains and NSW Trainlink, to replace the existing ageing fleets with safe, accessible and reliable trains with the latest technology and convenience features for our customers.
You would support the rolling stock portfolio at all stages of the asset lifecycle and be accountable for deployment of competent and capable resources to service rolling stock programs.
You will be supporting all delivery requirements through leading and deploying a significant engineering and technical cohort supporting a range of high-profile and significant fleet contracts at various stages of the asset life.
The role acts as a key interface with industrial partners, regulatory bodies, and unions to support safe, fit-for-purpose outcomes, while overseeing the successful transition of assets to thirdparty operators at the conclusion of the delivery phase.
Primary work location will be in Greater Sydney region with occasional travel involved to regional Sydney. Transport Senior Service Executive TSSE1A level role offering an attractive remuneration package with an expectation of 3 to 4 days in the office per week.
About you
You are an experienced senior leader with highly developed strategic leadership, project planning & delivery and management expertise with a proven capacity to inspire, support and develop staff to deliver outcomes.
You possess qualifications in Engineering, ideally with rollingstock background, and a strong understanding of applied processes and the mechanisms required for effective problem solving. You have excellent communication, engagement and stakeholder management skills and a record of success at senior management level in a large complex organisation.
What you will be involved in:
- Managing and coordinating the deployment of engineering capability across the fleet program pipeline, ensuring the right technical expertise is available to meet current and future delivery needs while building internal capability
- Overseeing the application of engineering governance and assurance frameworks throughout the design and delivery phases, ensuring compliance with legislative, regulatory, safety, and environmental requirements across all fleet programs
- Monitoring and ensuring design and implementation outcomes are technically assured, fit-for-purpose, and transition-ready
- Supporting the effective handover of assets to operating entities and contributing to long term asset reliability
- Acting as the primary technical interface for complex stakeholder and industrial relationships, including engagement with unions, regulatory agencies, and third-party operators to support collaborative, safety focused outcomes and resolve issues related to workforce and operational integration
