POSITION TITLE: Vocational Specialist 

                   

PROGRAM/LOCATION: HIGHER ROAD TRAINING PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM- SAN LUIS OBISPO 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the High Road Training Partnership Program Coordinator, the Vocational Specialist will carry out the services of the High Road Training Partnership Program by assisting interns preparing for, obtaining, and maintaining employment that is consistent with their vocational goals and recovery. The Vocational Specialist’s responsibilities are to provide vocational services navigation, employment preparation, job development, job placement, and retention services for consumers in the High Road Training Partnership Program with a trauma informed approach. This includes identifying and developing job leads consistent with consumer’s goals and the development of employer partner worksites for paid transitional vocational opportunities and potential permanent job placements. The Vocational Specialist will tailor employment services to each individual based on their needs for support. The Vocational Specialist will uphold and promote the program philosophy in all duties performed.


HOURS/ SALARY:

Full-time, non-exempt position. 40 hours per week. Anticipated hiring range is $22.00-$23.00. Includes a generous individual benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, life, 403b retirement (with up to a 5% employer match) paid vacation/holiday time, paid sick time and a variety of helpful employee perks as well. (*Full Salary Schedule $22.00-$26.25 per hour).

ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:

Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Identify and develop job leads within the agency of Transitions Mental Health Association appropriate to the interest and abilities of the intern seekers. 

2. Provide employment preparation services by addressing barriers to employment and advocating for appropriate supports, collaborating to create client resumes, developing job search and interview skills.

3. Act as agency liaison by consulting, collaborating, and communicating with Program Coordinator, County Behavioral Health Dept., SHARE, Santa Barbara’s Mental Wellness Center, and other treatment agencies to meet intern and program objectives. This may include coordinating referrals and/or providing information to other agencies or programs.

4. Function as a role model to interns with regard to rehabilitation and recovery, communication skills, and appropriate workplace behavior.

5. Assist interns in gaining access to peer certification training while tracking progress, providing guidance and assistance, and track completion of certification progress.

6. Work with upwards of 10 vocational interns at a time between T-MHA and supporting agencies.

7. Promote, encourage and maintain trauma-informed practices in all services and activities. Practice and promote, both individually and in team meetings, TMHA’s

Collaborative Communication Guidelines in order to facilitate clear, empathetic and person-centered communication.

8. Attend all SEP, agency, and other required staff meetings to coordinate client services with supervisors and program staff.

9. Must be comfortable working in a diverse and unpredictable environment and meeting clients “where they are at” with a “whatever it takes” non-judgmental, trauma-informed approach.

10. Complete all assigned trainings.

11. Provide Job Coaching services to interns as needed.

12. Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the HRTP Program Coordinator.


Administrative Duties:

• Complete monthly program reports in a timely fashion.

• Complete and coordinate HR paperwork for transitional employee onboarding and timesheet submissions.

• Administrative duties may also include maintaining individual paper and/or electronic client files, evaluating and charting client progress, developing service plans, admission and/or discharge paperwork, managing client notes, intra- agency correspondence, including time-sensitive requests to authorize DOR services.

• Regularly utilize MS 365 applications for communication and collaboration. Includes Outlook calendar, MS Teams, OneDrive, OneNote, Excel, Word, and One Note.

• Other agency administrative requirements that are time-sensitive, including personal timesheets, mileage claims, etc.


Job Environment:

1. Moderate, physical activity and frequent driving; may include moving or lifting up to 50 lbs.

2. Involves moderate risks that require safety precautions and the risk of exposure to potentially intense situations.


Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

1. BA/BS degree and 6 months of full-time work experience in job developing or mental health OR AA/AS degree and 2 years of full-time work experience in job developing or mental health; OR High School diploma and 4 years of full-time work experience in job developing or mental health.

2. Awareness/ understanding of the needs of psychiatrically disabled population.

3. English/Spanish bilingual a plus.

4. Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative work style and strong oral/written and communication skills.

5. Well defined organizational and time management skills.

6. Ability to work independently and flexibly.

7. Attendance is an essential function of this job that requires face-to-face interaction with clients and/or other employees.

8. Ability to handle intense situations, display good judgment and decision-making skills, and remain calm and clearheaded under pressure.

9. Ability to work well within a team and maintain a professional, respectful attitude in the workplace.

10. Ability to be willing to work with supervisor oversight and direction.

17. Conditions of employment include:

• Must be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid CA Driver’s License, at least 2 years driving experience and DMV driving record that meets TMHA’s current vehicle insurance requirements. May be required to utilize reliable personal vehicle and auto insurance.

• Must comply with a TB assessment (possibly a TB test if needed to confirm a negative tuberculosis result) and receipt of a criminal record clearance through fingerprinting.

• Must be able to successfully complete First Aid and CPR training.
