Kachemak Bay Flying Service (KBFS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of System Studies and Simulation (S³), providing a variety of aviation services to commercial, Government, and Partner Nation customers.
KBFS has locations in Temple, TX; Crestview, FL; and Geneva, AL. KBFS currently holds certifications for CFR 14 FAA Part 133 (External Loads), 135 (Non-Scheduled Transport), 137 (Agricultural Spray Operations), 141 (Flight Training), and 145 (Repair Station). In addition to its current commercial operations, KBFS provides contract aviation support to the Department of Defense, other US Federal Agencies, and US-approved Foreign Militaries and security organizations. The S³/KBFS Crestview, FL International ISR Training Academy provides pilot, mission system operator, flying crew chief, and loadmaster qualification training in air-land, airdrop, and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission sets. KBFS Geneva provides Fixed Base Operations support for the Geneva Municipal Airport and is the recipient of the 2023 FAA Award for Airport Manager of the Year under Manager Bryan Pike. KBFS Temple provides Flight Training, Aircraft Maintenance, and Avionics support, and Commercial Aviation Operations.
KBFS is seeking an Airfield Operations & Refueling Specialist to assist with our refueling operations located in Geneva, AL.
Maintains and operates aircraft refueling systems, vehicles, and associated equipment. This is an Entry level position. May receive technical assistance, as required, from higher-level technician.
Responsibilities:
• Refuels military helicopters including but not limited to AH-64, UH-60, UH-72, and CH-47.
• Assists in preparing fuel trucks and storage facilities for inspections and maintenance checks and services.
• Performs scheduled inspections and assists in performing special inspections.
• Performs limited maintenance operational checks and diagnoses and troubleshoots refueling systems.
• Uses and performs operator maintenance on tools and special tools.
• Applies comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate problems by interpreting technical documentation such as aircraft technical manuals, maintenance information and action messages as well as all technical guidance provided through government official representatives.
• Applies a working knowledge of technical publications.
• Makes entries in refueling logs and records.
• Review, interpret and enforce policies, instruction and directives pertaining to airfield and refueling operations.
• Performs daily airfield inspections and checks to include runways, taxiways, aprons, pavements, signs, lighting and airfield safety clearance zones.
• Responsible for assisting the Airfield Manager with flight operations tasks and executing all functions, activities, and flight operations procedures in support of rotary wing aircraft. Responsible for supporting the safe operation, employment, maintenance, and flight procedures of rotary wing aircraft. Coordinates with aircrews, air traffic control, and various base agencies that provide for safe operation of aircraft in the airfield environment.
• Monitor and operate various communications systems used for communication to coordinate with aircraft flight crews, emergency response crews, refuel, security forces, and air traffic control service providers.
• Support the upkeep of airfield infrastructure, including maintenance, FOD (Foreign Object Debris) control, landscaping, and general facility care for all hangars and operational buildings.
• Other duties assigned as necessary.
Qualifications:
• High School Graduate or equivalent experience and must be a graduate of a DOD, FAA or equivalent refueling course.
• Must have rotary wing and fixed wing refueling experience.
• Must have demonstrated experience refueling military helicopters including but not limited to AH-64, UH-60, UH-72, and CH-47.
• Adhere to FAA, DOD and NFPA regulatory and training guidelines to include transport, storage and distribution of fuels.
• Be able to occasionally lift 50-75 lbs.
• Possess Commercial Driver’s License with HAZMAT endorsement.
• Have demonstrated expertise in spill cleanup procedures, prevention, and control measures.
• Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience required.
