The Building Services Department is seeking (1) Custodian Foreperson to join the already awesome team, taking the Building Services Department to the next level of excellence!

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

The ideal candidate provides direct independent supervision (e.g., hiring, firing, training, conducting performance evaluations, and taking disciplinary actions) of custodial services for the university's buildings and facilities. Assignments will generally fall into one of the following groupings, although overlapping of duties may occur as needed:

• Covers cleaning duties for absent Co-Workers

• Directly supervises the work assignments for 10 - 15 subordinates. Provides methods and procedures training.

• Conducts routine inspections of facilities and furnishings to identify cleaning or maintenance needs. 

• Oversee the work of custodial staff, providing guidance and corrective feedback to ensure quality standards. 

• Coordinates room setups for scheduled events and promptly addresses custodial emergencies as they arise.

• Maintains inventory of custodial equipment and supplies, initiating orders as necessary to ensure adequate stock. 

• Assesses employee training needs and recommends appropriate development opportunities. 

• Evaluates staff performance and suggests corrective measures to support continuous improvement.

• Prepare detailed reports on employee performance, shift attendance, safety concerns, and personnel matters. 

• Identifies and reports equipment issues to facilitate timely repairs. 

• Acts as shift coordinator by monitoring employee arrivals, documenting absences, and reallocating work assignments to maintain coverage and operational efficiency.

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED and three years of related experience in an institutional, industrial, or commercial setting, including two years of supervisory or lead worker experience. A valid Georgia driver's license may be required for some positions.

Preferred Hiring Requirements:

• Knowledge of the operation and use of equipment and tools used in the care and cleaning of buildings.

• Knowledge of proper custodial service practices, techniques, and procedures.

• Knowledge of the Georgia State University (GSU) campus, buildings, and facilities, and custodial requirements or needs.

• Ability to supervise others or function as a lead worker.

• Ability to pass a criminal background investigation.

• Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
