Office of Unemployment Insurance
The Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) is seeking an ORS Specialist to join the Office of Unemployment Insurance. LWC administers the Unemployment Insurance (UI) program, which supports eligible workers during periods of involuntary unemployment. The program is governed by the Louisiana Employment Security Law and involves two main operational components: UI Tax Operations and UI Benefit Operations.

Position Duties

Three years of experience in unemployment insurance, workforce development programs, workers’ compensation, administrative services, or social services; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR

A bachelor’s degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Other Qualifications

Job Duties:

  • Receives inbound calls related to filing claims, filing weekly certifications, and claim status updates as they relate to Unemployment Insurance claims.
  • Examines correspondence received from claimants and employers as it relates to all claims.
  • Conducts fact-finding regarding potential issues on unemployment claims by making direct calls and corresponding with local offices, claimants, employers, and other interested parties. 
  • Complies and submits timely reports on daily production; Completes missed production reports to include an explanation when Federal Compliance Measurements are not met. 
  • Provides excellent customer service to our job seekers by answering their calls promptly, greeting the customer, and providing accurate information in reference to their unemployment claims.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a Probational or a Job Appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a Promotion (open to all statewide classified and agency-wide permanent status employees); or by Detail to Special Duty. Current permanent status, classified employees may be required to accept a Probational appointment if selected.  If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.

Career Progression: This position participates in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and may be filled as an ORS Specialist 1, 2, 3, or 4. The level at which the vacancy is filled and will be determined by the qualifications of the candidate selected. This position is an opportunity to advance within this job series. The actual starting salary depends on the education and experience of the selected applicant.
