Summary

The Protective Security Officer (PSO) is a position within the security and protective service field of work. 

The Protective Security officer is responsible for possessing and maintaining the appropriate certifications and training for areas to include First Aid, CPR, AED, Defensive Tactics, Handcuffing, Baton, OC Spray, and Firearms.  Responsible for delivery of services as described in the applicable Statement of Work (SOW) or Performance Work Statement (PWS). 

The pay rate for this position is $33.95/hour + $4.40/hour H&W + $1.00/hour Pension. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • PSOs will perform a variety of security-related duties, depending on type of posts assigned and must be thoroughly familiar with Post Orders and Officer’s Duty Book of assigned posts. Under no circumstance will any PSO neglect his/her duties to familiarize themselves with the Post Orders.
  • PSOs will monitor and observe facility occupants and visitors for compliance with Federal Management Regulations, Facility Management, (41 CFR 102-74) and facility’s posted rules and regulations.
  • PSOs shall identify, report, delay, or detain persons who violate rules and regulations, as appropriate and in accordance with Post Orders.
  • PSOs shall report incidents in accordance with established procedures
  • Off-going PSOs shall provide a summary to on-coming PSOs of recent, continuing, or anticipated events and occurrences for assigned post.
  • PSOs shall be responsible for maintaining logs, reports, and files of incidents and occurrences encountered during tour of duty.
  • PSOs will perform duties in a professional manner, responsible for observing surrounding environment, and, when necessary, questioning those persons whose activities arouse suspicion.
  • PSOs shall be knowledgeable of location and use of: first aid kits, fire extinguishers, AEDs, fire alarms, emergency exits, and duress alarms (if any) and ready, willing, and able to use as necessary and required by Post Orders.
  • PSOs shall be familiar with each tenant Agency and location within facility, restrooms, elevators, entrances and exits, retail spaces, and parking areas, and shall provide that information upon inquiry.
  • PSO shall not provide more than twelve (12) hours of combined service on any one or multiple contracts administered by FPS, in any twenty-four (24) hour period. Exception to rule: There must be an eight-hour non-duty period between work periods or granted an exception by COR.
  • PSOs shall direct traffic (vehicular and pedestrian), control parking, issue traffic courtesy violation notices, and examine surroundings for suspicious vehicles or persons, when required by Post Orders or direction of CO
  • PSOs may identify, delay, and detain suspicious person(s), as necessary to maintain a level of security that is sufficient to ensure safety and protection of personnel, property, and resources.
  • PSOs shall be responsible for receiving and utilizing keys and access control devices (i.e., “key cards,” lock combinations) required for duty.
  • PSOs shall consider keys and access control devices as sensitive assets and safeguard and secure as directed by Post Orders.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

None

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years of verifiable experience in a field such as civilian community law enforcement, or military service law enforcement, or commercial/industrial security force service
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record
  • Ability to pass a Federal background check
  • U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Ability to obtain US Government Security Clearance
  • Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)

      Physical Demands

      Work involves moderate to heavy work in all types of conditions. There is a frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday.

      The work environment characteristics described in this job description are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential duties and responsibilities of this job. 

      Generally, indoors, office setting.  While outdoors may be subject to changes in temperature noise levels.

       

      Work Schedule:    40 hours per week as business needs dictate.
