Description

 The Instructor provides direct support and training to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, helping them develop essential life skills, foster independence, and engage in meaningful, goal-driven activities. The Instructor works closely with participants and an interdisciplinary team to plan and lead engaging activities such as cooking, art, exercise, and community outings. The Instructor also teaches key skills in areas like communication, social interaction, and personal safety. In addition to facilitating daily routines, the Instructor assists with personal care as needed, document progress, and contribute to a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment that reflects Dayspring’s mission and commitment to person-centered care.

Requirements


  • Provide direct care and supervision to individuals, adhering to individualized support plans (ISPs).*
  • Lead both one-on-one and group-based educational and recreational activities tailored to participants’ needs and preferences. *
  • Create, adapt, and implement activity plans and curriculum aligned with participants’ Individual Support Plans (ISPs). *
  • Promote personal development and independence through hands-on learning opportunities, including activities like cooking, budgeting, and personal care. *
  • Facilitate structured community outings and volunteer experiences to foster social inclusion and real-world skill practice. *
  • Support participants during community-based instruction, such as using public transportation or making purchases. *
  • Monitor, document, and report participant progress, attendance, and behavior accurately and timely in accordance with program requirements. *
  • Maintain active communication with the interdisciplinary team, including families and outside professionals, to ensure consistency of care and progress. *
  • Assist with personal care and dietary needs as required, including toileting, hygiene, and meal support. *
  • Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all program participants at all times. *
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and engaging learning environment within the program site. *
  • Participate in team meetings, staff development, and required trainings. *
  • Uphold agency values, promote dignity and respect, and adhere to all Dayspring Homes, Inc. policies and applicable regulations. *

 ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Must possess and maintain a valid and current driver’s license with clean driving record per policy 
  • Must possess and maintain clean criminal, FBI (of applicable) and child abuse clearances (if applicable) per company policy
  • Ability to pass a urine drug screen
  • Ability to obtain health provider statement indicating general good health and free and clear of communicable diseases upon hire and biennially thereafter
  • Ability to fully attend, engage in, complete and pass trainings on an ongoing basis as scheduled including but not limited initial, annual, and other scheduled or assigned trainings (including but not limited to CPR/First Aid/AED/BBP, medication administration, and crisis intervention, incident management, etc.) 
  • Must remain in compliance with all state, local and company compliance policies
  • Must be available to work schedule as needed
  • Must be flexible to work in other programs as assigned/transfer to other locations
  • Must have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn
  • Good expressive and receptive communication skills, both oral and written required
  • Ability to communication in a friendly and positive manner
  • Ability to perform interventions as needed during behavioral episodes (with proper training)
  • Must be able to assist with transfers and physical support for individuals with mobility limitations.
  • Must be able to operate a vehicle (car, vans and passenger bus) safely and assist individuals with entering/exiting vehicles.
  • Prior experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities is preferred but not required
