Title: Senior Staff Accountant
Department: Fiscal
Reports To: VP, Controller
Supervises: N/A
Job Classification: Exempt, Full-time

 

The Senior Accountant is responsible for general accounting tasks, which may include reconciliation of transaction accounts, analysis of subsidiaries’ activities, general ledger functions (including assistance in financial statement preparation), accounts payable and support of ongoing accounting systems of HEC/Hope. This position is located at the corporate headquarters in Jackson, MS.

 

Primary and Essential Functions:

  • Reconcile various General Ledger accounts
  • Codes and enters invoices into the multi-company accounting system in accordance with standard procedures
  • Handles vendor correspondence via phone or email
  • Investigates and resolves problems associated with processing of invoices
  • Tracks invoice status (not assigned, not approved, etc.)
  • Receives, researches, and resolves a variety of routine internal and external inquiries concerning invoice status and responds appropriately
  • Enter data into General Ledger and review for accuracy
  • Assist in preparation of financial statements
  • Accumulate data required for quarterly call report and provide same to Assistant Controller and Controller.
  • Perform miscellaneous accounting duties as required
  • Perform general administrative duties such as attending meetings, report production, etc
  • Perform backup duty for other accounting staff as designated by the SVP/Controller.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by SVP/Controller or Assistant Controllers under direction of SVP/Controller.

 

Regulatory Compliance Requirements:

  • Must comply with provisions of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)
  • Must comply with all provisions of the Privacy of Consumer Financial Information regulations.
  • Must comply with all provisions of the Right to Financial Privacy Act.
  • Must comply with all regulations governing credit unions and financial service institutions.    

Accountability for Business Results:

  • Documentation of daily reconciliations
  • Documentation of monthly reconciliations.
  • Payment of accounts payables within vendor terms.
  • Accurate mortgage loan data regarding mortgages for quarterly call report.

Specified Authority Level:

  • Journal Entry posting in Sage Intacct.
  • Access in General Ledger, Accounts Payable and FS modules of Sage Accounting system.
  • Access to checks for payment of Accounts Payable.
  • Transfer funds between companies as necessary.
  • Initiate wire transfers as necessary up to $500,000.

 

Competencies/Skills:

  • Working knowledge of word processor, spreadsheet, other PC applications, or mainframe applications to produce non-standard, creative products.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent, and interpret data.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of how to make appropriate journal entries.
  • Ability to reconcile financial data.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related field
  • 3 + years experience in accounting, banking, or finance
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing programs
  • Experience in Sage Accounting software preferred
