Role Description

Your Role

The Associate Director, External Communications, will be an area specialist in external communications (particularly in launch communications) within the US and Canada. The role will demonstrate subject matter expertise in external communications within the pharmaceutical industry, and a solid understanding of both global and local business operations. This position sets direction and delivers impactful results while supporting the company’s purpose, objectives, and strategic priorities.

This will be a hybrid role, based out of our Madison, NJ office. Position will require ability and willingness to travel up to 20%. 

 

Your Responsibilities

Strategic Planning and Execution:
•    Develop and implement external communication strategies and tactics in collaboration with global and local stakeholders ensuring they are aligned to organizational goals


Launch Communications:
•    Lead and execute launch communication plans for new products and initiatives in the US and Canada, ensuring alignment with global and regional strategies.
•    Act as a subject matter expert in launch communications, providing guidance and best practices to internal stakeholders.


Content Creation and Management:
•    Create, edit, and distribute high-quality communication materials, ensuring alignment with corporate messaging and objectives.
•    Identify and implement improvements to communication techniques, methods, and approaches with minimal guidance.


Stakeholder Collaboration:
•    Partner with global and local teams to identify key messages for ex-ternal stakeholders, including press, customers, and public audiences.
•    Manage relationships with PR agencies and media outlets, ensuring effective communication and alignment.


Vendor Management:
•    Oversee and manage relationships with external vendors, including PR agencies and other communication service providers.
•    Ensure vendor deliverables meet quality standards, timelines, and budget requirements.
•    Evaluate vendor performance and provide feedback to ensure con-tinuous improvement.


Crisis Management:
•    Develop and execute crisis communication plans, ensuring readiness and clear communication during crises.
•    Provide guidance to senior stakeholders on crisis communication strategies.
•    Coordinate crisis management training for NA stakeholders with global communications


Monitoring and Reporting:
•    Track and analyze the effectiveness of communication efforts, reporting on key metrics and identifying opportunities for improvement.

•    Establish mechanisms for feedback and continuous improvement.


Training and Mentorship:
•    Train and mentor professionals within the function, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.
•    Provide guidance on communication policies and practices, clarifying questions and ensuring alignment.


Project Management:
•    Manage projects of medium to high complexity within the external communications area, with global and senior stakeholder manage-ment requirements.
•    Lead project teams indirectly, ensuring successful execution and alignment with strategic priorities.
•    Master project management tools and methods to deliver impactful results.


Compliance and Safety:
•    Ensure adherence to company policies, SOPs, and compliance guide-lines.

 

Your Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s Degree required; sales/marketing, science, or English-related degree preferred.

•  Minimum 7 years of experience in Pharma, Biotech, or Medical Device communications.  Prior launch-specific communications experience is a must.
•    Excellent Written and Verbal Communication Skills: Ability to convey messages clearly and effectively in both written and spoken formats.
•    Strategic Planning: Capability to develop and implement communication plans that align with organizational goals.
•    Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to build relationships and collaborate with colleagues at all levels.
•    Expertise in planning, executing, and managing communication projects and initiatives.
•    Skills to handle and communicate effectively during crises or unexpected events.
•    Innovative approach to creating engaging and impactful communication materials.
•    Familiarity with communication tools and platforms, such as social media, newswires, and AI.
•    Expertise in communicating and managing organizational changes to external stakeholders
•    Flexibility to adjust communication plans in response to changing circumstances.
•    Ability to build and maintain strong relationships across diverse teams and stakeholders. Actively seeks input and fosters open communica-tion to achieve shared goals. Encourages teamwork and leverages the strengths of others to deliver impactful results

 

The base salary range for this position is $152,000 - $225,000 per year. The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high of the LEO Pharma range for this position. Salary will vary based on various factors such as the candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. In addition, some positions may include eligibility to earn commissions/bonus based on company and / or individual performance.
