Position Title: Employment Support Specialist             Location: Bronx ACE

 

Reports To: Program Director                                   Cost Center:  54303

 

General Purpose:

Responsible for assisting participants in obtaining and maintaining competitive employment consistent with their vocational interests and abilities.   In accordance with the Individual Placement and Supports (IPS) supported employment model Employment Support Specialist (ESS) will provide job development services and ongoing rehabilitation supports within the community.     (ESS)  will conduct client intakes; administer career profile to assess job interest; will collaborate with clients to develop Individual Vocational Plan to address and areas needing improvement and establish an employment plan.  ESS will establish and sustain partnerships with employers in the community as well as alternate service providers.    

 

Essential Functions:    

  • Provide participants with job search services, including resume writing and interview preparation immediately upon their enrollment of the program.
  • Perform job development activities to secure individualized job placements.
  • Maintain caseload of at least 20 participants. Maintain and ensure HIPAA confidentiality. 
  • Document all participants contacts and services provided (daily) in electronic health record in a timely manner.
  • Secure participants paystubs and other employment verification monthly.
  • Provide personalized benefits planning including accompanying clients to local benefits offices and assisting with income reporting.
  • Provide job supports outside of the work place.
  • Encourages participants to carry out job search and job performance as independently. 
  • Have a minimum of 6 face-to-face / virtual employer contacts per week to learn about businesses, describe program services and develop jobs for participants.  Document employer contacts.
  • Occasionally, assist participants with case management activities as it pertains to job success.
  • Have monthly contact with other community mental health treatment providers, including Access-VR counselors for the purpose of discussing shared participants and identifying potential referrals; Communicate with mental health practitioners as often as needed
  • Provide participants with accurate information and assist with evaluating their choices to make an informed decision regarding what  is revealed to employer about having a disability
  • Help participants look for jobs that are consistent with person’s stated interests, strengths and preferences.
  • Help participants think of jobs that they will find satisfying and that they will be a good match.
  • Provide individualize follow along supports (including some case management) to assist clients in maintaining employment. 
  • Responsible for a minimum of 8 job starts per year or maintaining at least 20% employment on caseload.
  • Assists clients in obtaining information about their benefits (e.g., SSI, Medicaid, etc) and assist with reporting income.     
  • Discusses client's preference for disclosure of psychiatric status to employers. 
  • Share job leads with all participants. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Program Manager or other Administrative Staff. 

 

 

 

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements: 

  • Bachelor Degree required.  Job Development experience a plus.
  • Duties require professional verbal and written communication skills with excellent interpersonal skills.  
  • Strong presentation and networking skills
  • Must be a team player and have strong work ethic.
  • Must be flexible, creative and energetic.
  • Spanish Speaking Preferred 
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite (word, Excel, Outlook).

 

Scope of Responsibility & Positions Supervised: 

  • Maintain confidentiality and security of participant information and records.
  • Exercise discretion with participant program records as per HIPPA regulations.
  • Able to use professional discretion, based on participants retention history, of participants eligibility of metro card incentives.
  • Responsible for safeguarding metro cards and technological devices.

 

Special Working Conditions: Describe unusual working conditions or environmental factors.
