Reporting Relationships Reports to: Dean of Career & Technical Education Supervision Exercised: Functional supervision may be exercised over student workers
Job Summary Teach assigned classes and laboratory sections, and perform related activities to classroom instruction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Related duties may be assigned. 1. Teach Aviation courses. 2. Meet classes at assigned times. (Schedule normally includes both day and evening classes.) 3. Plan course content and assign appropriate course work. 4. Maintain student records. 5. Evaluate student progress and assign grades. 6. Revise course outlines, objectives, and catalog information as needed. 7. Select appropriate texts and teaching materials. 8. Maintain office hours convenient for students. 9. Prepare course/class reports as required. 10. Attend and participate in conferences related to teaching area; membership in appropriate professional organizations is recommended. 11. Submit budget requests and written narrative when appropriate. 12. Keep informed on the latest industry and Technical developments. 13. Attend required meetings (faculty, division, in-service training, etc.). 14. Assist in short-range and long-range planning. 15. Assist in developing and maintaining educational pathways for high school, as well as adult and continuing education students. 16. Participate in division, college, advisory committees, and community activities. 17. Instruct students in the proper use of lab equipment where appropriate. 18. See that equipment and/or labs are properly maintained where appropriate. 19. Maintain supply and equipment inventory where appropriate. 20. Make minor repairs on machines or lab equipment when practical and appropriate. 21. Participate in assessment of student learning. 22. Regular attendance is expected. 23. Using tact and courtesy, the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with persons contacted in the course of work. 24. Commitment to the mission of the community college and interest in involvement in department, division and College initiatives.
Related Duties 1. Assist in student program advisement. 2. Recruit students when appropriate. 3. Assist in work-based placement (e.g., internships, apprenticeships, post-graduation opportunities) when appropriate. 4. Assist in course and student outcomes assessments. 5. Work closely with the aviation professional associations. 6. Interface with the Federal Aviation Administration.

Required Qualifications 1. A bachelor’s degree in aviation maintenance technology or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience is required. 2. Current Airframe and Powerplant Mechanics Certificate. 3. Three years of diversified field experience in aircraft maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications 1. Successful college-level teaching experience in aviation maintenance technology or related field. 2. Experience in computer-assisted instruction and related technology. 3. Inspection authorization, supervisory experience, regional and/or transport category aircraft experience, teaching experience, and pilot’s license.
Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting.

The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. Physical requirements include the ability to stand for 4 hours and the ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
