Duties
Oversee the Human Research Protection Office (HRPO) and its Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) on behalf of the Institutional Official (IO).,Act as the institution’s primary liaison for regulatory matters related to human subjects research, while managing and overseeing institutional policies, agreements, and assurances pertaining to research activities.,Direct communications and coordinates transactions with regional units regarding the review, approval, and oversight of scientific and human subjects protections.,Support the Institutional Official in designing and implementing new processes and policies to ensure compliance with the latest regulatory requirements for human subjects protection.,Serve as Madigan’s representative for the Human Subjects Protection Program at national conferences and professional forums.,Delegate responsibilities to staff, evaluates performance, and offers expert guidance on both technical and administrative issues.,Execute both specific and broad provisions of government-wide and installation-level personnel programs, including Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and related initiatives.

Basic Requirement for Human Protections Director: Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting medical research involving Human Research Protection Programs (HRPP) or Institutional Review Boards (IRBs), maintaining research-related policies, agreements, and assurances, and providing education and guidance to research teams to ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory standards. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone - no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

The Position may be filled as a Term Appointment Not to Exceed 13 months, if the candidate is not a current permanent Department of Defense employee. Term appointments may be extended up to a maximum of eight years. Position May Be converted to PERMAMENT without further competition. Eligible for conversion to a permanent position based on the employee non-competitive appointment eligibility.
