Located in the Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina, Lake Junaluska is a ministry of The United Methodist Church and plays a vital role by providing a location for training and renewal. Each year, Lake Junaluska hosts over 200,000 guests who are engaged in spiritual training, recreation, or renewal events and activities. Our guests include religious, non-profit, and secular groups. We are also a residential and vacation community.
Essential Functions
-
Data entry for all invoices on a weekly basis into the Financial Edge accounting system.

Process invoice payments weekly; payments must be distributed no later than Friday morning. Pay by LJA credit card whenever possible.

Create and submit Positive Pay file to Wells Fargo weekly to validate payment batches.

Collect W-9 forms from vendors as required.
-
Collect Certificates of Insurance from contractors as required.
-
Ensure invoices and all supporting documentation are recorded and filed in an orderly manner weekly; at year-end, move prior year’s invoices to long-term storage.

Responsible for 1099 and 1099-R submissions.

Identify ways to reduce costs while maintaining or improving quality.

Understand, document, and be able to back up the Accounts Receivable functions in the absence of the Accounts Receivable Specialist.

Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures.

Clear uncashed checks and submit report to NC Unclaimed Property annually.

Record monthly vouchers via journal entry (copies, postage, service charges, etc.).

Process monthly sales and use tax reconciliation and payment to IRS.

Reconcile due to/from accounts 2999, 2910, 2998, and 2912 monthly.

Assist with yearly budget process by uploading budgets into the accounting system.

Assist with bank reconciliations.

Assist with yearly audit.

Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education and experience equivalent to an associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, plus 1–2 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience.

Knowledge of the general ledger, journal entry processing, and accounting practices.

Proficiency with computerized accounting systems, spreadsheet applications, and general computer skills.

Strong organizational skills; dependable and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Strong communication and client relations skills; able to present information clearly to vendors, and employees.

Detail-oriented with effective problem-solving skills, able to address a variety of manager questions.

Flexible and adaptable to changing needs, demands, and work structures.

Ability to follow and interpret a variety of instructions—written, oral, diagram, or schedule.

Ability to perform accurate calculations such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.

Working Conditions

Light physical activity involving non-strenuous administrative tasks, with quiet to moderate noise. Indoor office setting with adequate lighting, heating, air conditioning, and ventilation.

Physical Demands: Frequent movement; ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms (including overhead), stoop, kneel, talk, and hear. Occasionally lifts or moves objects up to 25 lbs. Requires close vision for computer work.

Hours: Monday–Friday; occasional nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
