Primary Purpose:
Assist in preparation and serving the appropriate quantities of food to meet planned menu requirements. Maintain high standards of quality in food production, sanitation, safety practices, and customer service.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Prepare quality food according to planned menu and recipes
Serve food according to meal schedules and food safety policies and procedures
Store and handle food items and supplies according to policies and procedures.
Maintain the highest standards of safety and cleanliness in the kitchen.
Operate tools and equipment according to safety standards and follow established policies and procedures to meet high standards of cleanliness, health and safety.
Keep garbage collection containers and areas neat and sanitary.
Follow all industry standard guidelines for food safety and sanitation
Maintain good personal appearance and hygiene according to Food safety policies and procedures.
Always adhere to professional conduct
Ensure counting and claiming process are followed according to USDA/TDA guidelines.
Handle and record cashier functions accurately and timely
Responsible for accurately managing point-of-sale (POS) transactions and reporting discrepancies in accordance with internal control policies.
Help Record and Maintain daily food production worksheet
Promote teamwork and interaction with fellow staff members
Provide great customer service
Complete annual continuing education and training
Attend monthly training
Complete assignments in a timely, efficient manner.
Assist in the daily clean up of the kitchen area and equipment.
Assist in the major cleaning of refrigerators, freezer, and storage areas at regular scheduled intervals.
If assigned, carry out other specific kitchen tasks (e.g. dishwasher, cashier, cleaning, and push meals to other areas of school etc.)

Qualifications:
Education, Experience, and/or Certification(s)
• Education Requirements: High School diploma or general education diploma (GED) preferred; may substitute equivalent work experience for diploma preference.
• Experience Requirements: Experience in school food service/food service minimum of 6 months
• Special Skills/Certifications: Possess current Food Handler Permit (or the ability to obtain within the first 5 days of hire), Ability to understand food preparation and safety instructions. Knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures. Capable of operating small and large kitchen equipment and tools.

Required Skills/Abilities:
• Communication Skills: Ability to communicate with all levels of personnel, students, and parents.
• Bi-lingual Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and apply understand and to carry out instructions in written or oral English.
• Technology: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have the ability to learn and use software as necessary (POS, clock in and out etc.). Ability to use basic office equipment. Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations.

• Child Nutrition workers are regularly required to stand and walk for the entire shift.
• Required to reach, balance, stoop, kneel, twist and bend often
• Employees in this role must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
• Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts
• Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold and extreme heat

Other Qualification: Criminal records check, pre-hire and annually thereafter, if applicable. Must be eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization.

Starting Pay: $16.24

Work Environment: The work environment is representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The environment requires proximity to other employees, frequent interruptions, extended periods of time viewing a computer screen and standing, and noise levels from moderate to high. There may be activity from other employees and students of a distracting nature.
