The Dual Certified EC and General Education Teacher for the Blue Comet Quest Program is responsible for providing individualized academic instruction and support to K–12 students participating in a therapeutic day treatment program through a partnership between Asheboro City Schools and Youth Haven, Inc. This position ensures that students receive a high-quality, standards-based education tailored to their academic, emotional, and behavioral needs, with a focus on promoting growth, stability, and successful reintegration into their home base school.
POSITION OVERVIEW
This position is a passionate and highly qualified educator who holds dual certification in Exceptional Children and General Education to provide academic instruction and support to students enrolled in the Blue Comet Quest Program. This program, in collaboration with Youth Haven Day Treatment, serves students in grades K–12 who require intensive behavioral and emotional support alongside academic instruction.
This position will work collaboratively with Youth Haven staff, home base teachers, school-based teams, and district leadership to deliver standards-aligned instruction, differentiated to meet the unique learning and behavioral needs of each student. This role is essential in supporting the academic success, reintegration, and progress of students in a therapeutic setting.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide direct academic instruction aligned to NC Standard Course of Study across multiple grade levels and subjects (K–12).
Develop and implement differentiated lesson plans in collaboration with the home base teacher tailored to individual student learning needs, IEPs, and behavioral goals.
Collaborate with Youth Haven Day Treatment staff, counselors, social workers, and administrators to support a therapeutic and trauma-informed learning environment.
Monitor, assess, and document student academic progress; adjust instruction based on data and student response.
Participate in IEP meetings, progress reviews, and transition planning for students returning to their home base schools.
Communicate regularly with families, case managers, teachers, and school teams to foster positive relationships and support student outcomes.
Maintain compliance with all EC documentation, timelines, and state/district policies.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Valid North Carolina teaching license in both Exceptional Children (K–12) and General Education (Elementary and/or Secondary).
Demonstrated experience working with students with emotional and behavioral needs.
Strong classroom management and instructional differentiation skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with multiple agencies and team members.
Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and positive behavioral interventions.
