Family and Consumer Science Teacher (Culinary Arts & Foods Focus)
Torrington High School (Grades 9–12)
Torrington Public Schools is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Family and Consumer Science Teacher to join the faculty at Torrington High School. This position will focus primarily on teaching Foods, Pastry, and Culinary Arts courses in our new, state-of-the-art culinary classroom, equipped with professional-grade tools and workspaces designed to inspire creativity and excellence. Students benefit from hands-on, real-world experiences in an environment that mirrors today’s industry standards. Additional responsibilities may include teaching other Home Economics content areas as needed. The ideal candidate will inspire students to develop essential culinary skills, explore the food service industry, and build an appreciation for nutrition and healthy living.
Certification Requirements:
Applicants must hold or be eligible for a valid Connecticut teaching certificate with one of the following endorsements:
- #045 Home Economics, Grades PK–12
- #098 Trade and Industrial Education – Culinary
- Or other appropriate certification as determined by the district
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching high school students in culinary arts, foods, or hospitality
- Expertise in food preparation, baking/pastry, safety, and sanitation procedures
- Ability to design and deliver engaging, skills-based instruction in a kitchen lab environment
- Familiarity with industry standards and trends in culinary arts
- Flexibility to support a variety of Family and Consumer Science offerings
- Strong classroom management and collaboration skills
