POSITION TITLE: Director of Pharmacy- Pharmacist 

Department: Pharmacy

Reports to: CNO

Purpose of Position: The pharmacist interacts with patients, family, and other healthcare providers as appropriate to assure continuity of services and to achieve desired patient outcomes through safe, timely, cost-effective medication therapy. Monitors inpatient and outpatient drug therapies when appropriate and works with medical staff to find alternatives when needed, to ensure the best care possible is given.


Essential Functions:

  1. Monitors medication therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, drug-laboratory test interactions, allergies, appropriateness of drug and dose, and therapeutic duplications.
  2. Provides accurate, adequate, and timely drug information to the professional staff and patients.
  3. Interprets medication orders (Verbal/written) and transcribes to computerized patient medication profiles accurately. Maintains accurate, complete patient medication profiles.
  4. Prepares and dispenses medications, including sterile preparations, extemporaneous compounds, parenteral nutrition preparations, and possibly chemotherapy safely and accurately using appropriate techniques.
  5. Supervises and directs pharmacy support personnel. Verifies the daily activities of pharmacy staff
  6. Prepare and dispense intravenous admixture solutions, as required, using aseptic technique in an accepted sterile product preparation area.
  7. Ordering of pharmaceutical supplies
  8. Manage Pharmaceuticals/NDC codes in electronic health record (EHR)
  9. Medication Administration System cabinet supply management
  10. Accountability for anesthesia carts
  11. 340b program management 
  12. Patient education regarding medications
  13. Review and reconciliation of pharmaceutical charges
  14. HIPAA compliance
  15. Attend P&T (Pharmacy & Therapeutics)  meeting every other month
  16. Active member of Swingbed Committe and monthly Peer Review Committee

Education, Qualifications, Experience: Graduate of an ACPE-Accredited School of Pharmacy. Successfully passed NAPLEX and Kansas MPJE examinations. BS Pharmacy Degree or Doctorate of Pharmacy degree. Licensed with the Kansas State Board of Pharmacy. 340b experience preferred.

Expectation of Service: This is an exempt position. Regular and punctual attendance is required. 


Physical Requirements: Occasional sitting, frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting/carrying 10-50 pounds with occasional lifting/carrying 51-75 pounds; frequent reaching/grasping, twisting, pulling/pushing, occasional exposure to Sharp instruments, exposure to dust and fumes. Frequent exposure to equipment.
