Job Title:  Teacher - Reading/Math Loss Interventionist

Job Summary:
Reading or math intervention teacher in grades K-5 to strengthen the core instructional program and provide additional academic instruction, individually or in small groups, to students who are struggling in reading or math skills and performing below grade level. This position is funded for up to three years.
 
Special Knowledge and Skills:

• Deep understanding of research-based and evidence-based practices for teaching reading and math and assessing student progress toward achievement of benchmarks.

1. Deliver focused reading or math intervention instruction.
2. Use appropriate supplemental intervention materials to provide Tier II or III literacy support or math support for students struggling with basic math skills.
3. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
4. Administer and interpret assessment data to determine adequate progress and to identify students in need of supplemental or intensive intervention.
5. Implement a range of effective strategies for student learning.
6. Prepare the classroom for class activities.
7. Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
8. Provide for the care and protection of school property.
9. Use relevant technology to support instruction.
10. Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments as appropriate.
11. Consistently assess student achievement through screening, progress monitoring, diagnostic and outcome measures.
12. Monitor and encourage individual student progress, review data to make instructional decisions to address student weaknesses and work as a team with other staff members to assist students in solving learning problems.
13. Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and development while articulating progress and success.
14. Maintain ongoing communication with other staff members regarding student performance and learning needs.
15. Update records accurately and completely as required by laws and district policies.
16. Participate in training and implementation of reading or math programs and instructional strategies.
17. Manage student behavior and maintain discipline by establishing classroom rules and procedures and enforcing classroom, school and district meetings and professional development activities as appropriate.
18. Participate in department, school and district meetings and professional development activities as appropriate.
19. Stay current with most recent developments in reading and literacy research or math strategies as initiated by the school district.
20. Foster and maintain effective communication with parents and/or guardians.

1. Bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university.
2. Certification as required by the state of South Carolina in the field of assignments as follows:

• K-5 Interventionist must be state certified in one of the following: Elementary, Early Childhood or Reading.

4. Other professional and personal qualifications as deemed necessary for acceptable fulfillment of assigned responsibilities.

• Physically capable of frequently lifting or moving up to 40 pounds;
• Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus;
• Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time;
• Manual dexterity for the purpose of using a telephone and data entry;
• Read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids;
• Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; and
• Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone.

Pay Grade: 28, 29, 31, 32,35 (Depends on level of education)
