Job Summary: Grow the small business lending portfolio and increase 7 17 Credit Union’s small business footprint in the communities we represent.
All job positions at 7 17 Credit Union may be assigned further duties with or without notice, verbally or in writing. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.
Primary Duties Small Business Development:
- Work referrals that come in from Teleservices, Commercial, Branches or another other referral/call lists available for Small Businesses. Small business requests are designated as any business or entrepreneur requesting a loan for under $150,000.
- Be active with the Warren-Youngstown Chamber and other organizations to be aware of small businesses coming to the area.
- Cold call current small business 7 17 CU members and discuss current and future needs. Log discussion and create calendar for future follow-up.
- Must be adept at interviewing small business owners to discern the presence of qualified borrowing needs and candidates for financing who conform to the Credit Unions regulatory lending policies, guidelines and underwriting.
- Accurately complete loan applications to include the collection of required financials i.e. tax returns, financial statements, quotes, business entity items and all other required paperwork to complete the application.
- Organize all information in a concise manner so it can be underwritten for a credit decision and then follow up with business owners to discuss outcome and next process.
- Assist with the closing of the loan, making sure all paperwork has been completed and signed off.
- Effectively cross-sell 7 17’s other business related products and services and contact members periodically for future needs.
Primary Duties – Small Business Credit Underwriting:
- Gather enough documentation for a small business loan requests of $150K or less so that it can be underwritten; including recommendation. Assist commercial lender(s) with credit requests to be presented for approval when time permits. Typical credit underwriting areas include:
- Sources and uses of monies;
- Borrower’s business and management assessments;
- Spreadsheet preparation and analysis, when applicable;
- Cash flow (incl. global) and financial statement analysis;
- Collateral assessment;
- Completion of loan risk rating matrix, when appropriate;
- Preparation of adverse action notices, when appropriate.
- Understand and be able to use lending platforms currently Credit Quest.
Confidentiality Requirements: Must keep employee information, member transactions and all other Credit Union business in strictest confidence.
Travel Demands: Must be able to travel locally and regionally.
Qualifications
Prerequisite Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Prerequisite Experience: Minimum of 3 years of commercial lending and underwriting experience. Knowledge of the operation of small business and general business banking.
Other Prerequisite Requirements of the position: Ability to review and understand tax returns
