NOTICE OF POSITION
POSITION:
The Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Gregory Mott, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

QUALIFICATIONS:
Qualified candidates must:
- Valid New York State School District Leader (SDL) or School District Administrator (SDA) certification.
- ?Master’s degree in Human Resources, Education, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful leadership experience in a school district, with HR and supervisory responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience in labor relations, contract negotiations, and personnel law in the public sector.
- Strong knowledge of NYSED regulations, APPR, certification, and employee evaluation systems.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, transparency, and service excellence.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) or advanced coursework in school law and labor relations.
- ?Bilingual (Spanish/English) proficiency.
- Experience working in an urban or diverse school district.
POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Poughkeepsie City School District is seeking a dynamic, highly experienced instructional leader to serve as the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. This senior-level administrator will oversee all aspects of human capital strategy and labor relations, and lead the district’s efforts in talent acquisition, compliance, employee engagement, and policy development. This is a pivotal role within a newly reorganized department focused on excellence in service, equity, and organizational effectiveness.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as a member of the Superintendent’s senior cabinet.
- Works with the Superintendent and senior management in implementing the Board’s adopted strategic plan and in articulating a vision for the district’s programs.
- Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for the Human Resources Department.
- Attends all regular and special meetings of the Board of Education and makes reports on district programs as directed by the superintendent.
- Develops and administers policies, procedures, and practices for assigned areas of responsibility, and provides interpretation of these policies and practices to the Board of
- Education, district staff, and the community, under the direction of the Superintendent.
- Attends professional meetings, conferences, institutes, etc., to represent the district and the Superintendent as needed and to keep abreast of current trends and practices.
- Supervise and support all Human Resource Team members.
- Lead collective bargaining and contract negotiations for all bargaining units.
- Ensure district compliance with federal and state labor laws, NYS Education Law, and Board policies.
- Oversee recruitment, hiring, certification, onboarding, evaluation, and retention of instructional and non-instructional staff.
- Collaborate with district and building leaders to address employee performance, grievances, investigations, and disciplinary actions.
- Develop, implement, and monitor HR policies, systems, and procedures to improve efficiency and transparency.
- Lead efforts to support diversity, equity, and inclusion in staff recruitment and development.
- Lead the district’s effort in advancing racial, gender identity, and sexuality equity in order to ensure all students are welcomed in a safe environment that values diversity.
- Develops and maintains up-to-date job descriptions.
- Serve as chief advisor to the Superintendent on all personnel matters.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to work effectively across multiple functions and roles (e.g., staff, policy-makers, supervisors, direct and indirect reports, peers/colleagues, external stakeholders) within a complex, multi-layered organization.
- Strong people management skills with a successful track record of leading teams to excellent outcomes.
- Skill to interpret and apply principles, policies, laws, regulations, requirements, contracts and Memorandum of Understandings. Ability to exercise sound independent judgment within general policy guidelines by analyzing complex programs, evaluating alternatives, and making sound recommendations
- Skill to prepare clear, concise, and competent reports, correspondence, and other written materials effectively with others.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey information to a variety of audiences (e.g., large groups, staff meetings, executive briefings, public board meetings, memos, etc.).
- Ability to work effectively in emotionally charged and difficult situations that may involve confidential or sensitive matters.
- Ability to balance several job functions at one time and work under a heavy workload.
- Ability to promote positive staff morale.
- Ability to work independently with little direction.
APPOINTMENT:
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be conducted where appropriate.
SALARY:
$181,125 - $194,480
