About the Department
The Office of Law Admissions at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law is responsible for meeting the enrollment goals, as set by the University leadership, for all the College of Law’s academic programs by recruiting, admitting, and enrolling students who are the best fit for the institution. To assist in meeting these goals, the Office of Law Admissions is seeking to hire an Assistant Director or Admission Counselor. Both are campus-based positions.
Position Duties
Counseling and recruiting students in a manner that respects the integrity and best interests of the students while effectively recruiting students for the University.
Inform and counsel students regarding: admission process, financial aid opportunities and processes, academic programs, campus life, student services, career opportunities, and other facets of the college selection process. Manage a division of the applicant pool and render admission and scholarship decisions when authorized to do so.
Developing and maintaining a thorough, detailed and accurate knowledge of the College’s programs and University’s services and promoting these services to prospective students and other stakeholders.
Projecting and maintaining a positive, professional image when meeting or talking with students, University departments and divisions, and other outside contacts. Foster meaningful, yet professional relationships with those who influence law school candidates.
Represent the College of Law on campus and across the nation at formal and informal recruitment events.
Oversee component parts of the enrollment funnel as assigned by the Associate Dean. Develop plans that include the efforts of fellow staff members and volunteers to fulfill assignments. Assess plan outcomes.
Travel expensively 6-8 weeks in the fall for recruitment purposes. May work extended hours and occasional weekends.
Additional Responsibilities
Demonstrate intercultural competence, work collaboratively with diverse communities, such students of color, international students, LGBTQ+ students, and other underrepresented populations.
Handle sensitive and confidential information in a business-like manner.
Other duties and projects as assigned by the Associate Dean.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduate or professional degree required. Degrees in law, business, or higher education are preferred.
One year experience in higher education, sales, public relations, or other customer-service related positions is preferred. Student worker experience will also be considered.
Advanced understanding of basic office productivity software, including MS Office or 365, Adobe, and Google Workspace. Have the ability to operate proficiently in a mostly digital office.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to individuals and large groups of prospective students and their influencers.
Willingness to acquire an understanding of the Jesuit commitment to excellence in education, diversity of the student body, social justice, and the liberal arts and sciences. The goals and objectives of value-centered education must be reflected in any recruitment program and by the presentations of the admissions representatives.
Ability to develop congenial and productive relationships with Loyola community members.
Ability to manipulate extensive travel alone.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
Must be able to carry and transport 40 points of materials and/or equipment.
Must be a licensed driver of an automobile with an acceptable driving record as determined by Loyola University’s Office of Risk Management.
Must be willing and able to travel long distances if need by airplane and/or automobile.
