SUMMARY
The Licensed Practical Nurse provides skilled nursing care under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. The LPN provides nursing services that are within the area of expertise approved by the Florida Board of Nursing and with consistency to the patient’s plan of care.
***Full time and Per Diem positions available.
SUMMARY
The Licensed Practical Nurse provides skilled nursing care under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. The LPN provides nursing services that are within the area of expertise approved by the Florida Board of Nursing and with consistency to the patient’s plan of care.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
Provides services in accordance with agency policies which include:
- Providing services in accordance with program policies;
- Preparing clinical and progress notes;
- Assisting the Registered Nurse or physician in performing specialized duties;
- Assisting the Registered Nurse in carrying out the plan of care;
- Prepares clinical and progress notes (not to include admission). Observes, records, and reports to the appropriate person symptoms, reactions and changes including general physical and mental condition of clients and signs and symptoms which may be indicative of untoward changes.
- Assists the Registered Nurse in performing specialized procedures as directed by the Registered Nurse under physician's orders,
- Fosters cooperative effort among personnel by understanding the functions of other persons involved in client care and by active participation in team and staff conferences.
The Licensed Practical Nurse with the education and proven clinical competence may perform certain treatments/procedures provided that Hospice policies and the State's regulatory acts allow their performance. Only Licensed Advanced trained Practical/Vocational Nurses with documented skill in performing these functions may:
- Administer medications, observe and report signs of adverse reactions..
- Inspect intravenous insertion sites, change dressings, and remove peripheral I.V. needles/catheters.
- Hang hydrating fluid without medications.
- Hang I.V.'s premixed with medications.
- Flush peripheral lines with saline or heparin solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS and COMPETENCIES
- Knowledgeable of service guidelines. Working knowledge of Hospice care. Two or more years in Hospice or in a hospital setting preferred. Demonstrated competence in emergency medical techniques.
- Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school and one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- The position requires the ability to drive extensively in a geographic area. Must be able to access clients' homes which will not be routinely wheelchair accessible.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Licensed as a LPN in the State of Florida
- CPR certification.
- IV Certification
