Pay Range: $23.48-$32.10 Hourly

Are you a skilled tradesperson with a passion for craftsmanship and facility upkeep? The City of Arvada is looking for a dedicated and experienced Craftsworker to join our team. In this role, you'll put your carpentry and general maintenance skills to work to support the functionality, safety, and appearance of city buildings and infrastructure.

Essential Job Functions

  • Performs construction and installation of a wide range of cabinetry.

  • Performs minor emergency and general maintenance repairs including water damage, vandalism, and plumbing.

  • Repairs and replaces broken doors and locks.

  • Paints both interior and exterior surfaces using both hand and spray equipment.

  • Performs routine and emergency drain and sewer line cleaning.

  • Replaces broken glass in windows and doors.

  • Assists with the installation of wood and metal studs, hangs and finishes drywall, hang doors and windows, sets forms, and pours concrete.

  • Assists with construction and performs maintenance on city park structures, signs, bridges, and walks.

  • Assists with moving and installing modular office furniture.

  • Frequently operates a personal or City-owned motor vehicle to drive to and from work locations.


Other Job Functions

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of safely operating equipment including, table saws, jointers, routers, planers, drills, shaper, etc.

  • Working knowledge of diagnosis and repair methods used in building crafts work.

  • Strong knowledge and experience in building crafts, construction, remodeling, maintenance, and repair.

  • Strong manual dexterity skills to operate equipment.

  • Ability to read and comprehend construction drawings.

  • Ability to operate a front-end loader, tractor, and forklift.

  • Possesses basic computer skills.

  • Ability to effectively communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives and interact with all levels of personnel within the city in a positive and cooperative manner.

  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.


Knowledge Skills Abilities Preferred


License & Certification

  • A valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required.


Education Degree

  • High School/GED


Education Required

  • Yes


Work Experience Related

  • Three (3) or more years’ experience in building construction and/or trade school training required.


Physical Demands

  • Strenuous to extreme physical effort that includes frequent use of heavy objects (e.g., 50+ pounds) and may also use heavy tools or require strenuous application in awkward positions.


Hazards

  • Marginal to moderate exposure to conditions that are unpredictable and may lead to injury.


Work Environment

  • Regular exposure to heat and noise along with working outside in the elements.

The City of Arvada does not offer benefits to temporary and/or seasonal employees.  Temporary, Variable Hour and Health Plan Eligible employees will earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum cap of 48 hours.
