About the Department
The Flag Football Referee works under the general direction and supervision of the Recreation Supervisor and is responsible for officiating scheduled flag football games coordinated by the Parks and Recreation Department.
This is a seasonal position working on Saturdays in the months of September and October. Typical Saturday hours are 9:00 am -1:00 pm. Depending on the number of travel league games hosted each week, the number of games worked varies anywhere from 2-4 per Saturday.
Position Duties
The following duties are normal for the position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive; other duties may be required and assigned.
- Observes players and regulates the game.
- Interprets game rules.
- Communicates with players, coaches, parents, and other referees.
- Makes decisions and resolves disputes between teams.
- Records game score and manages game time.
- Promotes good sportsmanship through respectful behavior to both coaches and teams.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, participants, and the general public.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Knowledge of the game of flag football or the desire to learn the sport .
- Experience working with children preferable.
Other Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of football.
- Knowledge of supervising children in an educational or recreational setting.
- Ability to carry out assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
- Ability to operate ball pumps, flags and whistles.
