About the Department

The purpose of this class is to assume responsibility for general management functions of CCBC's Special Collections & Archives repository website.

Position Duties

•Bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as sociology, anthropology, history, library science, computer science, etc. preferred and one (1) year of full-time experience working with collection rnanagement or exhibits in a library, archives, or cultural heritage organization. Knowledge of archival and library description standards, including DACS, EAD, MARC, and LC.
•Proficient skills in Microsoft Office software to include Word, Power Point, and Excel.
•Effective oral and written communication skills.
•Ability to work with diverse populations.
•Ability to develop and maintain constructive, cooperative working relationships.
•Well-developed organizational skills and attention to detail.
•Knowledge of archival and library standards, including DACS, EAD, MARC, and LC.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Manage and direct the operations of the library's Special Collections and Archives website, under the direction of the Collection Development Coordinator.
  2. Develop and administer policies and procedures for the content management system.
  3. Train, supervise, and evaluate Special Collection and Archives part-time staff, volunteers, and interns. 
  4.  Process, file, and organize materials in the collection, including labeling of collection items, folders, and containers.
  5. Manage supplies for processing Special Collections and monitor supply budget.
  6. Manage work area and physical storage of Archives Collections. 
  7. Coordinate with other CCBC departments, such as the Galleries and the Grants Office, to find new opportunities to communicate and enhance repository holdings.

Other Qualifications

  1. Physically accessioning and deaccessioning items including but not limited to photography, condition reporting, rehousing and archival storage. 
  2. Operate scanning and photography equipment to ensure the accurate and precise digitization of items and the creation of appropriate metadata and creation of metadata of archived material for long-term preservation and maintenance.
  3.  Assist in exhibition and display of Special Collections and Archives materials. 
  4. Conduct routine collection inventories and maintenance of objects and records in accordance with professional practices. 
  5. Research collection provenance, processes, creators, authenticity, and relevant content data.
