Derivatives Specialist


EXPERTISE IN THE INVESTMENT LIFE CYCLE OF EQUITY SWAP PRODUCTS AND MIDDLE AND BACK-OFFICE OPERATIONS PROCESS AND SOLUTIONS ARE REQUIRED.


Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Portfolio Operations, the Derivatives Specialist will play a key role in the Firm's ongoing use of equity derivatives. In addition to working closely with internal and external Operations teams, this role will collaborate with the Trading and Portfolio Management/Implementation teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of equity swaps and futures operational workflows.  As the Firm continues to grow in assets, strategies, and capabilities, this role represents a unique opportunity to lead and shape the operational infrastructure supporting our expanding equity derivatives platform. The successful candidate will play a critical role in establishing and managing processes across all facets of derivative operations. 

 

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage the lifecycle of derivative positions, including trade confirmations, settlement, and margin calls
  • Collaborate with brokers to facilitate new account openings, trade execution processes and efficient settlement processes
  • Work closely with the Trading, Portfolio Management and Operations teams to resolve issues and provide timely answers to inquiries. 
  • Assist in reconciliation and research of positions, interest accruals, and other variances 
  • Lead and mentor other Operations team members on derivatives
  • Prepare standard and ad hoc reporting for both internal and external needs
  • Conduct risk analysis on positions, including stress testing and scenario analysis
  • Identify and mitigate operational risks associated with derivative transactions
  • Stay informed about industry developments, regulatory changes, and best practices in derivatives and prime brokerage operations

 

Skills and Knowledge Required

  • A bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or related field 
  • 5-8 years of experience in derivatives 
  • Proficient understanding of derivatives, swaps, and equities
  • Strong understanding of derivative products and thorough knowledge of various derivative instruments used in managing global equity portfolios
  • Familiarity with Geneva accounting system
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills 
  • Strong analytical background
  • Excellent communication skills: ability to clearly explain technical concepts to team members and stakeholders

 

This is a hybrid position based in Los Angeles, CA which requires weekly attendance.
