The Volunteer Resources Coordinator supports the day-to-day operations for youth volunteers and adult volunteers at Orlando Science Center. The Volunteer Resources Coordinator role is essential in engaging volunteers, both youth (13-17) and adults (18+), across multiple teams and sessions throughout the year, supporting both weekday and weekend volunteer activity during the school year and coordinating multiple youth volunteer teams during the summer months. This position provides programmatic and admin support by assisting with volunteer onboarding and training, retention, coaching, and operational administration of the program to ensure a positive and mission-aligned experience that enhances guest engagement. The Coordinator provides critical support for the ongoing training and development of our volunteers in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Essential Functions
- Support the daily operations of the Catalyst Youth Volunteer Program and Adult Volunteer Program to ensure high-quality service to meet program expectations.
- Develop and implement team-building activities, icebreakers, games, ongoing training resources, and facilitate daily volunteer meetings for large audiences.
- Produce schedules and coordinate teams of volunteers for traditional operational support and during special events.
- Assist with the coordination and facilitation of orientation and training sessions for new youth volunteers and adult volunteers.
- Communicate frequently with volunteers and staff to ensure volunteers are well-placed and operating successfully.
- Demonstrate commitment to OSC’s mission and values while modeling these values for volunteers.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience & Certifications: Minimum of one year of experience coordinating or supervising both youth (ages 13–17) and adults in a volunteer, educational, or extracurricular setting. Proven ability to guide and support individuals in a team environment. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Customer service and/or hospitality experience.
- Experience working with people of various backgrounds, skills, and abilities.
- Experience designing newsletters, training slide decks, or other creative materials.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position is responsible for assisting with onboarding, training, and developing youth and adult volunteers.
Physical Demands
- Ability to remain in a stationary position.
- Moves throughout the museum.
- Ascends/descends stairs throughout the museum.
- Ascends/descends ladders or other equipment to perform various tasks.
- Observes and reacts to the needs of guests, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
- Communicates and exchanges accurate information with guests, staff, volunteers, and community partners in a variety of formats including in-person, electronically, and over the phone.
- Operates a computer and/or office equipment efficiently and accurately.

- Understand and distinguish speech and other sounds (machinery, alarms, equipment).
- Manipulates and moves components weighing up to 25 pounds, including those that may be low to the ground or above eye level.

Expected Hours of Work & Travel
- This position is full time must include weekends during the school year (September – May) and weekdays during the summer (June – August).
- During the school year, this position requires availability on Saturdays and Sundays, with flexibility for the remaining weekdays. During the summer, the typical work week is Monday through Friday.
- This position may work after-hour events or trainings, as needed.
- Opportunities to travel throughout the Central Florida area may be necessary to attend community events or deliver programs.
Telecommuting
This position is required to be onsite 80% of the time, at the discretion of the needs of the organization and the department.
